How do I get a PMP certification?
It’s no secret that if you’re a Project Manager, the only real credential you can stand on is the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute (PMP certification). I don’t know how many clients I’ve personally come across that have vented in frustration about the hours and dollars spent on their MBAs in project management, only to find the only real requirement to the position they’re trying to nail is the PMI-PMP certification.
Having those three little letters at the end of your name says a few things about you. For starters, it tells employers and clients that you’ve been trained in the best practices and ethics of the PMI PMBOK? guide, which is the gold standard study source of PMP certification training and the only education that matters in the PM game. What’s more, is this credential shows that you're experienced in the role of leading and directing projects which means not only do you know how to manage a project, you can perform the tasks that come with it! The project management world understands that certified PMs all speak a universal language which ensures all the Project Managers in a company can work cohesively no matter what projects they’re working on. Imagine a world with fewer communication barriers? Finally, since the PMP certification is becoming a standard requirement amongst all branches of the government and private companies, it says you are in demand!
By the way, I don’t want to go off on too much of a tangent on the monetary benefits here, but the average salary of a certified PM is about $112,000 per year. PMP certificants earn an average of 20-22 percent more over non-PMP certified project managers.
All that said, the easiest part of obtaining this certification is figuring out if it’s worth going for or not. The hard part is mapping out the road to bagging this elusive and coveted certification. The truth is, PMI is going to have all its hopefuls jump through quite a few hoops, and the process to qualification and examination is not cut and dry. At least not without the proper guidance.
But not to worry, that’s where we come in. Project Management Training Institute (PMTI) has been the global leader PMP certification training for 16 years running and with a 99% overall pass rate, it’s no surprise.
Our core objective of this course is to adequately prepare you for the PMP exam in the shortest amount of time possible with PMTI’s PMI-PMP 4-Day Boot Camp. The magic lies within utilizing a patent-pending accelerated adult learning method which caters to ALL styles of learning to ensure you grasp these complex and dense concepts in the shortest amount of time possible, while also ensuring you retain all the information. This learning methodology, in combination with a preset checklist of what to do leading up to the exam and beyond, will maximize your chances of passing while also positioning you to obtain the PMP certification as quickly as possible, and hold it for longer than anyone else is offering.
So the next big question is, “where do I start”?
You can begin your PMP Certification journey by confirming your PMP eligibility if you need that confirmation. PMI requires you to have 35 hours of PMP education satisfied before you can even submit the application so before you spend money or attend a course you aren't positive you qualify for, you can click here to confirm your eligibility. If you aren't sure about what counts as a project and you need expert advice from a specialist, we offer a free consultation to provide you with peace of mind. Just send your resume over to [email protected], and we'll get back to you within about a business day.
Next, upon registration for our PMP boot camp, you'll want to get through our self-study Video Course and take our 200-question diagnostic exam to knock out your 35 hours of education and get familiarized with what's being covered in the boot camp. This will ensure you where you stand even before you get to the boot camp, so you don’t walk into the training blind.
Once that's out of the way, you'll use our Application Prep Tool to get through the application process. This amazing tool is going to take all the headache out the application process and collapse the time frame on filling it out. From there, submit the application.
Finally, in preparing for the exam, you will attend our 4-day PMP training class. During this course, you will learn everything needed to pass the PMP exam. This includes an extensive review of each of the five (5) process groups while straightforwardly weaving each of the ten (10) knowledge areas in over the four (4) day course.
In a nutshell, your journey is as follows:
- Confirm eligibility
- Register for the course
- Take Online Video Course and Diagnostic Exam
- Fill the application with our proprietary application prep tool
- Attend PMTI's 4-Day PMP Boot Camp
- PASS THE EXAM!!!
Once you’ve reached the summit and attained the PMP certification, let us know, and we’ll extend your PMP certification from 3 years to 6 years at no cost!! In order to maintain your PMP certification, you’ll need to satisfy a requirement of 60 PDUs (professional development units) every three years under a PMI R.E.P. Each PDU is the equivalent of 1-hr of study. These courses can cost up to $1200 every three years depending on where you get them, how many PDU’s every course is worth, etc., so we’ll take care of your first extension at no additional cost. Some companies will throw 1 or 2 free PDUs at you but trying to fulfill the requirement that way would be like collecting quarters in vending machines and payphones (remember those?) on your way to the $25 sushi buffet.
As a Project Manager, obtaining the PMP certification is a necessity in today’s hyper-competitive business world. If you do it on your own, you’ll be shooting your target in the dark, and you would want the brightest light possible leading the way, wouldn’t you?
