“I might be your next client, Sonia”
Those were the words a friend said to me a few days ago.
This is a successful mother, wife, carer, business owner, lecturer who is doing it all and yet fears that it’s at the expense of her health and wellbeing.
Anyone else identify?
She yearns for quiet moments with a book and yet also yearns to make a difference in this world, which she does every day.
What’s the answer? In truth, I don’t know, but here’s my take on it which I hope helps anyone feeling this way…
We all make choices in our life and sometimes the choices we make seem to come all at once. Now it would be easy for me to say something like:
“Prioritise…
Make sure you only say yes to those things that you really want…
Remember that when you say yes to one thing you are saying no to something else” (something I say often…)
Well those things are all relevant and could be helpful.
But what if it’s all important and it all seems to be happening now…? and you’ve gone through the process of prioritising and it’s still all now?
Well if you make the choice to say yes, the best piece of advice that I can give you in order to not suffer from overwhelm is to embrace the new situation and the results of saying yes to it all.? Focus on the why, the outcome that you want, the vision, the big picture, the purpose - whatever you want to call it - focus on that rather than all the things, and the things will fall into place.
Be prepared to compromise - on time spent on each thing, on quality where it’s possible and anything else that you can compromise on.
Be prepared to ask for and accept support. We’re not made to do everything on our own and we’re better when we collaborate.
AND make your health a priority.? Without your health you can achieve nothing. Ask yourself the question, how can I do x in a way that supports my health rather than compromise it? And then follow that path.
