There is a wide range of fabrics available for clothing, but do you really know the types of fabrics?Next, I will express some of what I know and hope it?can?help you.
Fabrics are generally divided into two main categories: woven fabrics and knitted fabrics.Woven fabric is a fabric formed by interweaving warp and weft yarns vertically.Knitted fabrics are made by forming loops of yarn or filament with knitting needles and then stringing the loops over each other.Knitted fabrics and woven fabrics due to the different methods in the weave, in the processing process, fabric structure, fabric characteristics and finished products, have their own unique characteristics, here to make some comparisons.
Two?ways to differentiate between knitted and woven:
01.Basic Concept
(1)?Knitted fabric
??Knitting refers to the process of using knitting needles to form loops of various raw materials and varieties of yarn, which are then connected by a series of sleeves to form a knitted fabric. It can be done either horizontally or vertically, the horizontal knitting is called weft knitting, while the vertical knitting is called warp knitting.
??The loop is the smallest basic unit of the knitted fabric, and the loop is made up of a spatial curve of the loop stem and the extension line.
(2)?Woven fabric
??Woven fabrics are made by interweaving two or more groups of yarns that are perpendicular to each other at a 90-degree angle to form a warp and weft. The longitudinal yarns are called warp yarns and the transverse yarns are called weft yarns.

Each intersection point between the warp and weft yarns is called a tissue point and is the smallest basic unit of the woven fabric.
02.Fabric tissue properties
(1)?Knitted fabric
Because the loop is bent in space, and each loop is composed of a yarn, when the knitted fabric is subject to external tension, such as longitudinal stretch, the bending of the loop changes, and the height of the loop also increases, while the width of the loop is reduced, such as tension is transverse stretch, the situation is the opposite, the height and width of the loop in different tension conditions, obviously can be converted to each other, so the extension of the knitted fabric is large.
It can be stretched in all directions and has good elasticity, as the knitted fabric is formed by hole-like loops and has a large breathable performance and a soft hand.
(2)?Woven fabric
Because the warp and weft yarn interweaving place some bending, and only in the direction of the perpendicular to the fabric plane bending, the degree of bending and the mutual tension between the warp and weft yarn, and yarn stiffness related.
When the woven fabric is subjected to external tension, e.g. by longitudinal stretching, the tension of the warp yarn increases and the bending decreases, while the bending of the weft yarn increases, e.g. by longitudinal stretching without stopping until the warp yarn is completely straight, while the fabric shrinks in the transverse direction. When the woven fabric is stretched by external tension in the transverse direction, the tension of the weft yarn increases and the bending decreases, while the bending of the warp yarn increases, e.g. by stretching in the transverse direction without stopping until the weft yarn is completely straight, while the fabric shrinks in the longitudinal direction. The warp and weft yarns are not converted, unlike knitted fabrics.
Woven fabrics have little relationship between warp and weft yarn extension and shrinkage, and no conversion occurs, so the fabric is generally tight and stiff.
