How Disco Music Started
Today, May 3, is the birthday of James Brown. Known as "The Godfather of Soul," "Soul Brother Number 1," "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business," and "Mr. Dynamite," few people know that James Brown helped develop disco music.?
In 1971, when The Best of Friends started promoting discotheques in midtown Manhattan, there was no such thing as disco music. It didn't exist yet. My DJ partners listened to hours of music at record stores to find cuts with an infectious, danceable beat. Many of these songs became hits when guests heard them at discotheques like the Ginza, La Martinique, Casa Blanca, and Al Mounia. But during that period, the best way to get people up on the dance floor was to play anything from James Brown.?
James Brown put the funk in R&B. Few could resist Brown's powerful 4/4 beats - it was perfect for dancing. A few years later, disco music became the most listened-to music in the country as other performers began recording songs with dancing in mind. Thank you James Brown and happy birthday.

10 个月James Brown. Had the best horn section in the world and the best and funkiest drummers in the world. Pee Wee Ellis on tenor, Fred Wesley on trombone and Maceo Parker on alto. Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks were of course the drummers.
