How Different Shapes In Branding Have Psychological Effects On Customers

It takes a lot to design a proper logo for a brand. Many factors go into play in attracting prominent customers to do the needful. One wrong move can ruin your brand; hence, psychological strategies like using the right color schemes and shapes play a vital role in creating an image of your brand.

In today's newsletter, we’ll discuss the psychology of shapes and how they affect a brand’s identity.

Circles

Since a circle is inclusive, it has no end. For communities that represent harmony, friendship, and matrimony, the circle will be great for strength and consideration for all. Hence, if your brand logo has a circle, it's always a great idea to attract positivity for your brand.

Rectangles

The square or rectangle is an elegant and professional shape. If your brand focuses on conservatism or addresses an important issue or niche, you should incorporate this shape into your logo. It will also make your customers take you seriously. You can also add a burst of color to make it look appealing.

Triangles

Triangles represent masculinity, and they predict a steady flow of movement. Hence, the whole concept of generating ideas comes easily for brands with triangular logos, as is evident for ‘Data Square’. The interlocking triangles also combine a square pattern that denotes the solidarity of a brand, combined with the ideology that the brand is more innovative than usual.

What shape kind of logo and branding would you use for your brand?

It is, indeed, fascinating to realize all of the unconscious decisions humans make, isn’t it? As a Brand strategist/Brand messenger, I’m all about communicating with words, supported by design, of course! ?? I might add here the importance of a tagline to better explain who/what the brand is that is extremely memorable and clear. Think the likes of Nike and McDonald’s… All we have to do now is see their logo, but in the beginning, their tagline was very important. Soo, I always advise clients to have a great tagline, unless they are already a household word, like the two I mentioned and a few others. I find it amazing at the number of websites I see, without a tagline to clarify who they are, and what they do.

Interesting perspective about design language. Shapes, colours, font styles and many other subtle things really impact on human behavior. However, I have seen a lot of logos and brand identities that have free hand shapes or even shapes of nature like trees, mountains etc. How do you all see the usage of such shapes in the design language?
