I had the honor of attending The Daystar University Career Day as a panelist.
One of the questions we were tasked to answer was "How did your educational background and experiences prepare you for the challenges and opportunities you encountered in your professional career?"
Back in university, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) , I was knee-deep in calculus 1-9, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential equations and etc and drowning in linear regression – seriously, who knew we'd use all those equations outside of the classroom?
We had a professor who once said to us, "who told you to choose calculus. If you want to cry, cry".
But little did I know, those late-night study sessions in Hall 7 with the likes of Bernard Baraza , Stephen Mwoni Kitavi , Terry Maina , Jesse Eyase , Desmond aroko , Sylvia Karanja were laying the foundation for my future endeavors.
Fast forward to the real world, today, as I navigate the complexities of supply chain and demand planning, I find myself drawing heavily on the statistical models ingrained in my educational background. The correlations between classroom theory and real-world demand patterns have become strikingly evident, highlighting the practical relevance of my statistical training.
But let's talk about the ultimate plot twist: the infamous Covid curveball. Suddenly, everything I'd learned was put to the test as demand went haywire. As demand patterns fluctuated unpredictably, I relied on a combination of academic knowledge and workplace experience to adapt swiftly and accurately forecast demand in volatile market conditions.
Now, here's the kicker: learning never stops. I firmly believe that learning is a lifelong journey. With the rapid advancement of technologies such as AI and analytics, staying abreast of industry trends and continuously refining one's skills is paramount to remaining competitive in the ever-evolving landscape of supply chain management.

8 个月As a BSC Basic Sciences student I will admit I left campus as confused as I had joined, I had no clue what I was going to do in life. Fast forward many years later, having branched into Supply Chain management and I can't thank my mathematics and statistics courses enough for the foundation to my career. Noelyne, your story and background is relatable ??
