How did promotional messages come into being?
Did you know that the first SMS message was sent on 3 December 1992, when Neil Papworth, a test engineer for Sema Group, sent "Merry Christmas" to the Orbitel 901 phone of a colleague, Richard Jarvis? The SMS, or Short Message Service, later became increasingly popular among the users of Nokia phones in Finland. As more people started using their new mobile devices for sending messages, it wasn’t long before advertisers started noticing how this relatively new technology could be used for marketing purposes.
Fast forward to today, 23 billion messages are sent every day worldwide.
That’s how promotional messages came into being. Now we see it almost everywhere be it our email inboxes, SMS, or push notifications.
This reminds me of a recent message I received on WhatsApp. I was fascinated to see how my favorite brands are at the top of their games by sending me promotional messages based on previous conversations or purchase history.
I also find them sending their upcoming sales offers every now and then to keep me up to date. WhatsApp commerce has certainly become the up-and-coming trend and it's here to stay.
On average, users open WhatsApp 23 to 25 times a day, giving brands the perfect window to sweep in with exclusive offers and personalized notifications to customers. What’s even more interesting is how it's being used to revolutionize the customer experience. With WhatsApp, you can cater to your customer's needs at every stage of their journey.
Today, I’d like to share with you these 9 ways you can use WhatsApp messages to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Let me know if this helps and I will see you next week.
