How did I spend 2022 in Computer Vision Field?

This year (2022) has been going towards ending in a day or two, leaving thoughts for everyone to think about what they got this year (success, failure, achievements, contributions, and many more). Apart from that, this year (2022) has been really good for me, as I have worked on many computer vision ideas, learn different concepts, understood the client's needs for projects development, and explored new ideas and techniques that can make computer vision easy for development, and deployment (on edge and embedded devices).?

In this article, I will talk and discuss,

  • What type of computer vision projects did I work on?
  • What articles have I written on different topics in the computer vision field?
  • What problems and issues did I face in the development of computer vision solutions?
  • Tips for beginners that want to pursue a career in the computer vision field.

What type of computer vision projects did I work on?

In this year (2022), there are many projects on which I have worked (including POCs and projects). The top 10 projects amongst them include,

  • Personal protective equipment detection (construction site and warehouses). Demo
  • UAE and USA vehicle number plate detection and recognition. Demo
  • Staff detection for exclusion of staff in retail analytics Demo
  • Vehicle detection, counting, and analysis for on-off traffic light signals with computer vision. Demo
  • Football player and football (detection, tracking, and analysis). Demo
  • Underwater object (fish) detection and tracking for analysis of fish behavior (this POC is developed by thinking about the idea of fish farming) Demo
  • Smart transportation (remove delays in transportation due to road issues). Demo
  • African wildlife animals detection for analysis. Demo
  • Object tracking along with pose estimation. Demo
  • Stop signs and traffic light signals detection for autonomous vehicles. Demo

What articles have I written on different topics in the computer vision field?

Technical articles are considered one of the easiest and best ways for sharing knowledge and experience with others. This year (2022), I have written many articles in the computer vision field, most of them based on object detection, object segmentation, image classification, computer vision issues, and different use cases. The top 5 amongst them include,

  • Roadmap for computer vision engineer. Article link
  • Jetson Nano is rapidly evolving in computer vision solutions. Article link
  • YOLOv7 and YOLOv5 comparison on embedded devices and computer systems. Article link
  • How can computer vision products help in warehouses? Article link
  • Problems in the development of computer vision products. Article link

Great, Nice work :)
Nice, Great :)

What issues did I face in the development of computer vision solutions?

Over the last 2.5 years, I have faced a lot of issues during the development and research of computer vision projects, but with consistent efforts, testing on my own, and support from different online communities ( PyTorch , TensorFlow , Ultralytics ,? Roboflow ) I have resolved many issues. These problems have provided me with the ability to think about new ideas and challenging use cases. The three important challenges and issues which I faced include,

  • Environment background and object (that need to be detected) feature match.
  • Small object detection at less intensity light.
  • Age prediction from a large distance in a crowded area (still ongoing)

Tips for beginners that want to pursue a career in the computer vision field?

There are many things that need to follow for achieving success in the computer vision field, but the important suggestions that I think are necessary include,

  • Regularly learn new concepts and make your routine consistent. I always believe that consistency is one of the bigger factors in my success.
  • Keep thinking about new ideas, don’t matter if these are stupid! At least it will help you to think about things in depth. Try to implement these ideas for a certain level and write them down in some document. I always follow this strategy.
  • Develop projects related to Computer vision, regular working on projects will help you to learn and develop a passion in your mind for the computer vision field.

? There are a lot of things that I am planning for coming 2023. Stay tuned to get these updates in the coming year.??
