How did I break the walls of self doubt that held me virtually captive for all these years?

How did I break the walls of self doubt that held me virtually captive for all these years?

Have you ever felt insecure?

-  Of relationships, job, material belongings

Have you ever feared failure?

-  In exams, interviews, competitions

Have you ever encountered self doubt?

As per clinical psychology, every human mind endures self doubt.

Self doubt is a state of the mind where one experiences lack of confidence. It is the lack of belief in one's physical appearance or logical abilities. This negative chatter becomes an obstacle in the growth process and holds you back from taking charge of your life.

If dealt with these thoughts in a positive manner, it can help you recognize your limitations and also keep a check on how to improve in a particular area.

But a fact check, self doubt is not a good thing to deal with for a long time. It ruins the quality of life and you end up questioning your capabilities.

With an objective to ensure you don’t need anything else to win, I have put down everything I’ve been doing all the while to keep myself focused-

1.  Practice positive affirmations

I’ve known people who say this is an illogical thing to do. But believe me, it is a basic yet the most powerful technique to focus on the positives.

"I can do it", "I will make things work", "I am on the right track" something like these are good to start with.

2.  Never compare your journey to others

I know this is easier said than done, but this individually will consume all the confidence you have without you realising how far you’ve reached.

Rather look up to yourself, embrace your journey and what you’ve become in the process.

3.  Write down your story

Start from your fears and move towards your strengths. In the process, draw examples from your own life.

Write about how you tackled difficult situations and came out as a warrior.

This will make you more confident in taking charge of your life.

4.  Don’t fear rejections

The world is not going to crash tonight, so don’t let that rejection sink in your soul.

Be wise enough to let things go which can’t be controlled.

You are blessed to have the next morning, so prepare again.

Go all out. And make it your day.

5.  Grab every opportunity that reflects optimism

When you don’t have enough motivation left to lift up your mood, use the power of technology.

Let others positivity and enthusiasm have your back. Listen to your favourite motivational speaker for 10 minutes, also an energetic podcast will work for that moment.

This will help you boost your morale.

6.  Walk down the memory lane

Sit back and recall the times when a similar feeling took over your thought process in the past, analyse what progressive steps you took to overcome that.

The negative chatters in your head try to stop you from moving out of your comfort zone.

Most of the time you’ll realize it was not even worthy of your time and energy.

7.  Talk to someone you trust

Although this has never really worked for me, I know how effective this can be when you have people who trust you more than yourself.

Don’t struggle with self doubt in your head, it will expand and overpower in not much time. Just talk it out and give the power to others who can influence your thoughts in a good way.

8.  Continue to polish your art

Learning never ends. And if you feel you know it all, then let me be honest, you know nothing. A human mind can never learn everything.

Keep reading books related to your work, visit all the pages on Google search, watch Youtube videos, practice in front of the mirror (this is the best thing to do).

This will send positive signals to your mind and you’ll feel more placid, sanguine and satisfied.

9.  Nothing is permanent

Not even your failure. There is not a single person who hasn’t failed in life. Because if he’s never failed, he’s never tried.

Always remember, experimenting either makes you a winner or a good learner. So don’t let your temporary state of mind take control of your permanent identity.

Take a lesson and move on. Don’t stick to it.

So now that you know some of the terrific ways to get over self doubt, are you ready to take action?

Let me tell you, only reading this won’t solve the purpose. If you are struggling with self doubt and sincerely want to get over this feeling, you got to implement it.

So here is what you need to do next:-

Step 1- Write down 1 thing that you are grateful for in life for the next 21 days.

Step 2- Write down your story when you faced a similar situation and also elaborate the probable reasons.

Step 3- Write down how you tackled those situations and how you felt after accomplishing it.

Let me know in case you need any more clarity on the topic.

Although I’ve tried to cover all the essential pointers that revolve around self doubt, you can always come up with those I might have skipped.

And I am eager to see great results, hoping that this will help you fight the battle against self doubt.

I really liked the idea of reflecting optimism. Will surely try it now. Talking to a trustworthy and motivating friend is always good. And ultimately change is the only constant. Hence, nothing is permanent. A truly dynamic article. Well done Dhruvisha.

Great article as I believe everybody goes through doubt.. for me I'm at a place that when I sense it I befriend it and find the solution. However there are times when I missed it completely that's when I know I need to learn something about the said situation.
