Qualifications required for President's Election Candidate

According to article 58, these are qualifications required for a presidential candidate.

  1. Citizens of India
  2. Completed at the age of 35 years.
  3. She is qualified for election as a Member of Lok Sabha.
  4. A person shall not be eligible for the election which holds any office of profit under the government of India, the government of states, or any local government or other authority subject to any said governments. But this condition does not apply to the President or vice president of the union, the governor of any state, or a minister for the union or any state.

When the Indian constitution was under formation, The person named Prof. K.T. Shah said, "If any minister wants to be a candidate, then he should resign his post," but Dr. Ambedkar rejected this suggestion and said, "It would create complete administrative chaos in the government of the country."?

Who can vote in the presidential election in India?

The Electoral college can vote for the presidential elections. Electoral college means the elected lok sabha and Rajya sabha members and legislative assemblies elected members of all states and union territories like Delhi and Puducherry. The nominated members of the Rajya Sabha cannot vote in the presidential elections.

Total Value of the vote = Value of one vote × Number of votes

After article 370, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will be out of the voting because, after article 370, they became territories of the state. Then politicians from Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh will not be able to vote in the presidential elections.?

Value of Vote of Member of Parliament (MPs)

The Lok Sabha has 543 MPs, and the Rajya Sabha has 245 MPs (12 Nominated). Nominated members' votes can't be counted.?

Total Elected MP's = 543 + 233 (Nominated excluded)

Draupadi Murmu's Background

Draupadi Murmu started her political career in 1997 by joining BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). In the same year, she stood in the elections for municipal councilor and won the election. In 2000, She contested the first assembly elections from Rairangpur and won the elections. Again in 2004, she became MLA. She held various departments, like commerce and transport departments, fisheries, and animal husbandry.?

  1. In 2007, she won the Nilkanth award for the best MLA of the year.
  2. Over the next six years, she faced many problems. Her two sons and husband died in unfortunate incidents.
  3. In 2015, the senior BJP leaders made him governor of Jharkhand. She became the first tribal woman governor in India.
  4. She is the first tribal woman president of India and the first president born in independent India.
