According to the downloads and revenue charts?by App Intelligence, we have sorted out several mobile games with surging revenue and downloads?on the App Store and Google Play in March 2023. We also offer an analysis of what has led those games to success in several respects including their gameplay and marketing strategies, giving you something to think about when you are looking for inspiration for your new games.
The following analysis is based on some specific games.?Any growth rates of revenue and downloads mentioned in this article refer to the relevant MoM growth in March:
1 [Whiteout Survival]
Publisher: Century Games
Release date: February 2023
Revenue growth on the App Store in March:?$3.1M
Growth rate:?MAX
In early February, Century Games released [Whiteout Survival], an SLG set in a frozen apocalypse. As far as gameplay is concerned, the game is basically an updated version of the company's apocalypse simulation game [Frozen City]. But [Whiteout Survival] immerses players into a world of strategy wars more than home construction, attracting people with its more interesting gaming experience and also resulting in more revenue.
It was unexpected that Century Games released a similar game after only 2 months. But, with very few games of the same type available in the market, [Whiteout Survival] managed to deliver great performance regardless of a similar gameplay. The game reported a revenue increase of nearly $3.10 million on the App Store in March, well on the way to becoming a big hit game.
2 [Dice Dreams]
Publisher: SuperPlay
Release date: August 2019
Revenue growth on Google Play in March:?$1.8M

Growth rate:?40.9%
[Dice Dreams?], a social casual game released by the Israeli company Superplay, generated outstanding revenue in March, with its revenue on Google Play increasing by about $1.80 million. In terms of its gameplay, the game is actually a casual game appearing to be a casino game. Instead of the roulette of [Coin Master], the game uses dice, and is mainly about revenge. In the game, players attack their friends' territories with slingshots or through other ways, or steal coins and other rewards.
Besides similar gameplay to that of [Coin Master], [Dice Dreams?]'s most effective ad creatives and [Coin Master]'s were all live-action drama videos. The game also had mini-game ad creatives, including but not limited to pin-pulling puzzles, roulette & tower climbing, and match-3 & rescue.
As a casual/casino mobile game, [Coin Master] grossed nearly $1.28 billion in revenue in 2021, which was a huge success. And only a few subsequent games including [Dice Dreams?] ever reached a higher level than that of [Coin Master]. Perhaps an analysis of those games' design and marketing strategies will help us find new inspiration for developing casual mobile games.
3 [Mighty DOOM]
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks LLC
Release date: March 2023
Revenue growth on the App Store in March:?5.8M
Growth rate:?MAX
Finally a mobile game in the well-known Doom series was released. Unlike the PC games in the series played in first-person perspective, the mobile game is a roguelike third-person game, perhaps inspired by the success of [Archero]. That's why many gamers call it a "skin game".
However, the game's downloads show that players were so fascinated by the classic IP that they loved the game though it was a "skin game". According to SocialPeta, [Mighty DOOM] had a total of nearly 6 million downloads on Android and iOS in March. We're not sure about the game's future market performance. But we'll keep observing and see the success rate of "classic IP + roguelike".
