Most people I speak to about landing a TEDx gig have a number of reservations.?
The biggest is what on earth to speak about that would be relevant to them, what they do and how they help people, whilst also being an ‘idea worth spreading.’?
Mark Twain said: ‘There is no such thing as a new idea. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations.’?
When it comes to developing fresh talk topics and ideas worth spreading, there is truth in this too. If you want to deliver a TEDx talk on imposter syndrome, you will see that there are many many other TEDx talks on imposter syndrome.
But if you put your ideas, stories, unique experiences and opinions on imposter syndrome into a kaleidoscope, you can turn it around, make new combinations and develop different angles or perspectives. This creates fresh ideas on existing theories.
If you have ever thought that you don’t have a unique enough story or idea to put yourself forward for a TEDx talk, I hope this helps you reconsider. No idea is really new, but it can be unique.?
