Transactional leaders focus on the exchange between leader and follower, while transformational leaders seek to change and inspire those they lead. So, what’s the difference? Leadership styles can be generally broken down into two categories: transactional and transformational. The?transactional leadership?style is based on a system of rewards and punishments, where people are motivated by the prospect of a tangible reward or avoiding an undesirable outcome. Transformational leadership style, on the other hand, is about inspiring people to buy into a vision and working together to make that vision a reality.

The two leadership styles are not mutually exclusive, and many leaders use elements of both styles depending on the situation. However, there is debate over which style is more effective
