How to Determine what Type of Positions to Apply to

When it comes to hunting for a new job, having tons of options on the table is always positive. If you throw enough resumes out there, something is bound to stick eventually, right?

Not exactly. You’ll probably miss out on the best simply because you were too busy and turned in a lackluster application material.

What should you do? Here are five key things.

1- Analyze the duties

You should look at the listed duties for the position. Employers take a decent amount of time on this section to ensure that applicants can get a solid handle on all the job entails.

Read through the associated tasks and try to picture yourself working that job. Can you see yourself being happy with those duties, assignments, and responsibilities?

2- Determine your qualifications

It’s essential to know the fields and roles in the place where you think you would best fit in and be an asset.

After you’ve read through the job description, take some time to reflect on your skills and experience. Are you at least somewhat qualified for this position? Or, will the hiring manager take one look at your resume and discard it immediately?

3- Research the company

Liking your employer is another crucial piece of the puzzle. If you love your position but hate your company, chances are you won’t feel too fulfilled and satisfied in the office each day.

Do some research on the company. Check out the employer’s website and read through their career page. You should also look at their blog, read about the people who work there, read out their company news, and explore their social media profiles. Do you see yourself working for such a company?

4- Think long-term

Remember to think ahead when determining which jobs to apply for. Is this position just a temporary solution, or is this something you think you’d enjoy for quite some time?

Take your time and make sure your next job is exactly what you’re looking for.

Stick with the jobs that push you closer to your bigger picture career goals.

Think about the elements of your current and past jobs that you have enjoyed the most and write them down.?

5- Are you in doubt? Apply!

You’re still on the fence about whether or not you should submit your application. In those cases, I’d encourage you to give it a shot and apply anyway.

Forget about the ones you didn’t take once your decision is made; instead, focus on the future and get ready to start a great new job.?

Remember, applying doesn’t bind you to anything. It’s just the first step in the process.
