How to design a pictorial logo just in 5 steps

Let’s talk about How to design a simple but attractive and appealing pictorial Logo just in 5 basic steps like I have designed.

Step 1: Getting the details about the product.

???????????????Whenever I get a project of designing a logo I do ask some of the basic questions from my the client to know what exactly my client wants me to design. Possible questions can be about Client’s preferences, theme, nature of business, color scheme etc.

Step 2: Researching

After getting the required information I used to grab a cup of tea and do some research on google.

I search for the synonyms of the keyword and look for other logos related to the keywords for preparing my Mind Map as I’ve shown below.

Step 3: Mind Mapping

???????????????For Mind Mapping, I take my notebook, grab a pen and I used to extract different possible words from the keyword (Name of the brand or keywords given by the client) which I can type or draw in the logo as shown below.

Words which comes to my mind when I thought about the brand
Keywords I drived from the internet and my thoughts

After extracting the possible words, I used to draw some rough sketches of the logo whatever comes to my mind. It doesn’t matter how bad I am in a designing on a paper and pen. I will fix it while designing it in adobe illustrator. During this whole process my Tea really helps me a lot.

As I have said before it doesn’t matter how bad my hand writing is or how bad I am in designing on a paper, I will fix it later in adobe Illustrator. Therefore after various designs I move to phase II of sketching where I try at my best to sketch some of my designs a bit more neat.

So here 1 design that looks me good to go I have tried it to redesign it with some neatness. after this I move to step 3.

Step 3: Selecting and Importing?????

My selected sketch
My selected Sketch

After drawing various rough sketches no matter how bad are they designed what matters is the idea, I select 1 or 2 from them, click a good picture from my smartphone of them and import them on my new created artboard in adobe Illustrator by going to File > Place > Directory.

Step 4: Illustration

???????????????When my artboard is ready, my rough sketches are imported. I set the right size of my imported design using Selection Tool. I also set the opacity of the imported picture from properties panel so that I will be able to see the illustration as well as my vectors which I am going to design. Next step for me after setting the opacity is to lock the picture by going to the Object > Lock > Selection.

Now it is all set for me to draw. First of all I select a suitable tool to start illustration. As for this logo I initially select pen tool, decide an end from where to start sketching from my imported picture. After selecting a suitable point I start drawing the vectors using anchor points, setting fill color to zero and stroke to the suitable visible value. During the process of sketching I may use curvature pen tool too. After drawing and sketching all the vectors I unlock the imported picture and delete it.

I go to the color.adobe.com where I explore for the right gradients and colors for my logo. Filling the colors in the logo, I try some different fonts for my text which my client wants to see on the logo. After some tries I got the right font and size for the logo and yes, I have done this.

Step 5: Presentation

For the presentation, I display my logo in 2 formats (rectangular and in circular). And I do prepare a pdf in which I set my designed logo on different backgrounds and sizes for the better display to the client.

Awesome brother very easy to understand and learn thanks for sharing this knowledge.

Thank you for adding me to your network. I was very happy to see that you accepted my request. I look forward to learning more about design. I think it would be helpful for both of us to discuss pictorial logo design.
