How to Design with Boho Chic Style

This week we’re taking a deep dive into a home décor trend that is simultaneously relaxed, bold, unpredictable and worldly.

Bohemian chic, or Boho for short, can be thought of as a complete rejection of minimalism. It is on the other end of the design spectrum and is characterized by eclectic, colorful, textural elements that are full of personality. Fun and free-spirited, Boho certainly incorporates elements of Biophilia (natural world design elements) and Hygge (the Danish concept of finding joy in everyday moments within our homes, especially through coziness and plushness).

Boho doesn’t have a distinct style of its own, but rather appears curated by a well-travelled collector. To ignite your creative spirit, we’ve compiled this thoughtful list of our favorite Boho pieces from vendors we know and trust:

  • Lexington Pegasus Medallion Border Cream/Blue/Terra Area Rug: This Oriental rug by Madison Park offers a unique twist on a classic design, utilizing hi and low yarns to create a textured appearance. Made in Turkey, it is machine-crafted from a blend of polypropylene and polyester fibers, creating a beautiful rug for any space with an extremely soft hand. The colors in this collection make it perfect for layering in any Boho living space.
  • Metallic Series Galvanized Steel Planter Box: This cube box planter is a welcome addition to any front entrance, deck or patio. It features a contemporary powder coated UV protected finish and a modern modular design. Crafted from a thick gauge, fully seam welded galvanized steel base, it is resistant to weather-related cracking and rust. A wonderful way to incorporate plants, a fundamental Boho element.
  • Luxury Decorative Throw Pillows: Throw pillows are for more than just comfort. They add texture, color, excitement, and style to your rooms. Inject some tribal flair into an otherwise solid color sofa and chairs or add some whimsy, humor or personality into your room with word or animal pillows. Mixing and matching ethnic patterns like tribal prints against contrasting geometric designs is a hallmark of Boho Chic Style. If bright colors aren't for you, embrace a subdued mix of shades like olive green, cognac, mustard yellow, and rusty oranges. (For additional savings use JSDS code: Good Vibes)
  • Kelsey Round Pouf Ottoman: This oversized ottoman pouf will make a statement in any home. Filled with polystyrene beads, this round ottoman is soft to the touch and comfortable to sit on. Its distinctive stitching pattern and vibrant color adds style to any room. No assembly required. This pouf has a decidedly vintage/70’s feeling to it which I love.
  • Shelley Square Storage Ottoman with Pillows: These square storage ottomans with two matching accent pillows bring a room's décor together as an ideal way to add that extra splash of color and comfort to your living space. The concealed storage space is a big bonus, especially for us city-dwellers.
  • The Artful Shelf – Whitewashed French Farmhouse: No bohemian space would be complete without a curated, creative mix of art and books. In fact, beatniks of bygone eras likely owned way more books than they did clothing, furniture, or other material possessions. This hand-carved ledge from Minted is made from sustainable mango wood with a distressed, whitewashed finish. It has an eclectic antique French flea market feel to it. (FREE shipping & FREE returns every day on fine art prints with code SHIPFREE)
  • Simon Counter Stool: This Madison Park stool provides a pure and simple update to your Boho dining decor. Crafted with graceful sloped arms, its straight legs are made from durable rubber wood, for a clean and sturdy design. The cream upholstery and the smooth reclaimed grey finish on the legs create an elegant look that fits in any transitional décor. Group in odd numbers.
  • Joni 3-Light Statement Globe Chandelier: Don't get tied up in typical lighting - show your rustic style with the natural tied rope details of the chandelier. Easy to install, this chandelier is high vaulted ceiling compatible, so you can showcase your white weathered dining room table or your fun bohemian entryway. The 3 candelabra bulbs create a soft, warm glow perfect for romantic dinners for two in the comfort of your home.

Designing with Boho Chic Style presents a wonderful opportunity for collaboration with an interior design professional. The trick is to hit all the right elements without it becoming overcrowded or messy. We’re here to help. Set up an e-consultation today!
