How to Defend Against Voice Phishing

Voice phishing, or vishing, is a social engineering attack where attackers use phone calls to trick targets into giving sensitive information or performing an action. Over 59 million people in the US were affected by vishing in 2021. However, there are ways to mitigate these attacks, such as security awareness training, policies for handling sensitive information, phishing simulations, and following cybersecurity best practices. Vishing attacks often occur alongside other attacks and can bypass firewalls and email filters. Vishing gives attackers advantages over email phishing as it is more intimate and has fewer security countermeasures.
