How To Decrease The Amount Of Spam Messages and 2 LinkedIn Features To Take Advantage Of

What I wanted to talk about today is how we can stop all of the spam messages on LinkedIn and 2 LinkedIn features that will help you and your business grow.

I know I am not alone when I say that, "I am sick and tired of being pitched and sold to in messages and connection requests".

It is something that I feel needs to be stopped to ensure we all have a productive and meaningful experience on LinkedIn.

But, have no fear. There are methods and ways of "STOPPING THE SPAM".

Since turning on, “creator mode“, I see less spammy and sales messages, and it is something that I recommend all of you to do.

Here are the 3 ways to stop "the spam":

1. Turn on "Creator Mode":

By turning on creator mode, it turns off the "connect" button, and it turns on the "follow" button.

Why is this important?

Those on LinkedIn using automated software ( this goes against the user agreement and can get you kicked off ) that is connecting and messaging for them, will be blocked when creator mode is turned on, due to the connect button not being visible for the software to pick up on it.

There is still a way for people to connect with you, but it becomes a 3 step process that software can not do automatically.

2. Ignore any connection request that has a sales pitch note attached:

LinkedIn has been doing its part in protecting our networks and accounts by giving us the option to "ignore" any connection we feel is fraudulent or spam-worthy.

When you get pitched or sold to in a "connection note", hit the "ignore" button as this will trigger LinkedIn to look at the individual's account.

If enough "ignores" come from that account, LinkedIn can suspend the account due to over-spamming.

3. Remove any connection that sends you a sales pitch message as the first outreach:

As many have experienced, when we hit that "accept" button, from time to time we get an immediate 18-paragraph long drunk-a-log sales pitch message.

Again, this is something that goes against the user agreement if certain software is being used to do so, but some LinkedIn users are just copying and pasting the same message to any new connection they make.

My rule of thumb is if someone doesn't have the time to get to know me first, and they just want a sale by sending me a disingenuous and inauthentic message on the initial reach out, they are not worth having as a connection.

Simple just "remove" them as a connection altogether.

These simple tips will help clean up your network and LinkedIn in an overall capacity.

Over the past year, LinkedIn has stepped up its game by adding new features to help us in many ways.

These 2 features are absolute game-changers when it comes to building rapport and trust on LinkedIn.

What I love about LinkedIn, is they get so inventive and creative with the tools they provide us, but are you taking full advantage of them?

Here are the 2 features you must start taking advantage of and why:

1. LinkedIn Cover Story:

This is your opportunity to introduce yourself through a 30-second video that you can add to your LinkedIn profile when someone views it.

It must be uploaded from the mobile app, but it will appear on both the desktop and mobile versions.

This is a game-changer as it allows you to tell the viewer of your profile who you are, what you do, why you do it, and whom you do it for.

The other amazing thing is that you can update this "cover story" as needed.

If you are changing something within your business or you are launching a new program, you can go it and edit your cover story to be current and relevant to where you are at that time in your business.

2. LinkedIn Featured Content:

"LinkedIn Featured Content" is a section that you can add to "showcase" what you do for a profession, past content that you have posted, or even have calls-to-action to take people from "online to offline" much quicker.

All that needs to be done is you must click on "add profile section", then click on "recommended", and it will give you the option of "featured".

When you click on this, you can then add your most recent post, article, web link, or even a video source.

You can add a link to your calendar, website, or even a direct link to your podcast.

The possibilities are endless with this feature and it has helped me and my business out greatly.

I would love to hear from all of you…..

What are your thoughts and feelings on all of the pitches and sales and messages on LinkedIn and are you going to use LinkedIn Cover Story and Featured Content to your advantage?

Useful advice... but not sure I want to make it more difficult for new customers to reach out to me... People are busy and usually want to click a button and get in touch...might test this out for 30 days and compare. Will report back. :)

I literally have not received any spam messages since doing these two things and following your program. Prior to this spam was the primary thing in my LI inbox!!!!!

Great tips on how to limit spam Scott! I wonder when the automation will catch up to start clicking Follow instead of Connect.

Great tips as always! I do still get preautomated DMs when I accept a connection in creator mode but do delete them right away. Thanks for the advice :)
