How to deal with the problem of overweight containers?
①The weight limit of the container itself
There is information on the maximum weight limit on the unpacking door of each container, such as MAX GROSS: 30480KGS. This means that your box with the goods cannot exceed this weight. Tare weight--20GP: 2200KGS, 40: 3.720-4200KGS, some HQ will have MAX GROSS: 32000KGS.This is the maximum strength that the container body can withstand. If the loading exceeds this limit, the container body may be deformed, the bottom plate will fall off, and the top beam will be bent. All the resulting losses will be fully borne by the loader. At present, most professional container terminals in China have installed automatic weighbridges. Therefore, as long as the container exceeds the weight limit of the container, the terminal will refuse to accept the container. Therefore, it is recommended that you clearly see the weight limit on the container body before packing, so as to avoid unnecessary reloading operations.
② Shipping company weight limit
In general, each shipping company has different weight policies, and the approximate standard is not to damage the container.
During the explosion period, the weight limit of each box type will be lowered accordingly by the shipping company according to the heat of the route.
When booking, you should ask the freight forwarder about the weight limit of the shipping company at the latest shipment. If there is no confirmation and the goods are heavy, there will be risks. Some shipping companies will not have any room for communication after they are overweight. These costs are out of control.
③ Port area weight limit
It mainly depends on the mechanical equipment load of the wharf and storage yard.
After the container ship docks at the dock, the crane at the dock is generally required for loading and unloading operations, and then it is towed by a truck to the container yard and then lifted by a forklift. If the weight of the container exceeds the mechanical load, it will cause difficulties in the operation of the wharf and the yard. Therefore, for some small ports with relatively backward equipment, the shipping company will generally inform the port in advance of the weight limit, and those exceeding this limit will not be accepted.
④Route weight limit
For different routes, the shipping capacity of the shipping company is arranged according to the order of cargo loading and unloading ports, and the type and heat of the export of goods. In addition to the load problem of equipment operation at the destination port, the weight limit of large and small containers on different routes is naturally different.
⑤The weight limit of supporting feeder ships or highways
Anyone who has done inland locations in the United States has a deep understanding. The road transportation weight limit in the United States is very strict. Because many containers need to be towed by trucks to the inland after being unloaded at the terminal, the road weight limit has also become a shipping company. The reason for limiting the weight of the container, of course, is not limited to the terminal.
The weight requirements of the goods to the US line are very strict. The weight limit is mainly affected by the weight limit of the US inland road. Generally, the small container is 17.3 tons, and the large and high container is 19.5 tons. However, there are different weight limit requirements according to different ports.
⑥What should I do if I am overweight?
This is mainly divided into overweight port area, overweight shipping company, overweight port of destination
1. The shipping company is overweight
Discuss with the shipowner, pay the overweight fee, and the rest will go as normal;
2. The port area has its own regulations for overweight
If you find that you are overweight when entering the port, you need to negotiate with the port area and pay the overweight fee plus manual handling fee or take out the box and repack it;
3. The destination port is overweight
Generally, if the destination port is overweight within a certain range, the fine can be solved; if the overweight is serious, the cranes along the way cannot be loaded and can only be transferred to a nearby port or returned to the original road.
