How to deal with job application rejections?

I often receive messages and calls from job seekers in my circle who express frustration about not receiving job offers, responses to their job applications, or calls for job interviews.?

Here’s what they’re saying.

Why am I not getting job offers?

Why am I not getting any response back for my job applications?

Why am I not getting any calls for job interviews even after passing the first round?

Why am I getting interviews but not getting hired?

If you find yourself in this situation, it's natural to look for external factors to blame, such as a tough job market, lack of opportunities, or high competition. However, it's essential to take a step back and understand the reasons behind your rejections.

Some of these reasons are within your control, while others are not. The reality is that people are still getting hired despite a challenging job market. As a career coach, I can help you navigate this process and identify areas of improvement.

Here are a few steps that you can take to make your job search more fruitful:

  1. Arm yourself with knowledge about the job application process and avoid rejections as much as possible.
  2. Keep upskilling yourself by taking courses, reading books, and talking to people in the industry.
  3. Don't rely solely on job boards and websites. Instead, build a strong LinkedIn profile, develop your personal brand, create a portfolio showcasing your skills, and network with people in your industry.
  4. Connect with employees working in your target companies on LinkedIn, build a rapport, and request referrals.
  5. Highlight your accomplishments rather than just responsibilities from your previous jobs in your resume.
  6. Tailor your resume for each job role and write a professional summary instead of vague objectives.
  7. Arrange your resume in chronological order of your past professional experience.

We will provide more details in tomorrow's and future newsletter, so stay tuned. Remember, rejection is a part of the job search process, but with the right approach, you can increase your chances of success.
