(1) Wild Problems: A Guide to the Decisions That Define Us by Russ Roberts. Draws on the experience of great writers, scientists and artists who found innovative ways to navigate life's biggest questions. (2) Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward. A gritty and poignant novel about a poor family just before the days of Hurricane Katrina. (3) Our Kind of People by Carol Wallace. If you like HBO's The Gilded Age, you'll love this book about the Wilcox Family in post-Civil War New York City. This is a book about ambition, class and an homage of sorts to New York City's early years, chronicling the innovation of the elevated railroad and institutions like Delmonico's. (4) Devils (Buy on iTunes). Starring Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy), Devils follows London financiers during the post-2008 crash days. (5) EconTalk (Apple Podcasts). Russ Roberts' fascinating podcast that tackles all things economics. Roberts is a famed economics professor, rapper and the President of Shalem College in Jerusalem (6) House of the Dragon (HBOMax). Although I'm only one episode in, this Game of Thrones prequel about The Targaryens is already addictive. (7) Cleaning Lady (Hulu/Fox). Series follows Thony, a Filipino-Camobodian physician who immigrates to the US to get life-saving medical treatment for her son. She overstays her visa and is forced to take a job as a cleaning lady where she gets hooked up with organized crime in Las Vegas. (8) Indian Matchmaking (Netflix). Full disclosure: I'm obsessed with Indian culture, and I usually loathe reality TV. That said, I was looking to decompress, tried an episode of this show and got hooked. The series follows Sima Taparia, a matchmaker with clients around the world. (9) Jones Road Hippie Stick. Perimenopause has not been kind to my skin, so I've become my mother: lugging lotion around in my purse. I stumbled on Bobbi Brown's company Jones Road and had to try her all-in-one moisturizing stick with sunflower seed oil, coconut oil and shea butter. The scent is heavenly...a light fragrance of spearmint and orange. Bonus: it doubles as a hair pomade to tame flyaways, and it's not a liquid, so you can sail through TSA. (10) Athletic Greens. I've been streamlining my supplements, and I was looking for something that covered all the bases. I heard about Athletic Greens on Tim Ferriss' podcast and gave them a try. #gamechanger. I mix this with water and Vitamin D oil and drink it first thing every morning. I've noticed improved skin, hair and a lot more energy to fuel my days.
