Last week, as I was engrossed in a virtual meeting with a colleague, his phone rang, interrupting the flow of our discussion. He excused himself, answered the call, and his demeanor shifted from focused to concerned. Upon his return, he shared a rather unsettling experience.
A mysterious agency had contacted him, claiming that a parcel addressed to him had been returned due to suspicious items found within. The caller, with a sense of urgency, requested sensitive personal information to initiate an investigation. My colleague, initially alarmed, followed the caller's instructions, providing the requested details.
However, as the days passed, a sense of unease grew within him. He began to question the authenticity of the call and the agency's legitimacy. It was then that the horrifying truth dawned upon him. He had fallen victim to a cunning cyber scam. The unknown agency was a group of cybercriminals, exploiting his trust and vulnerability to gain access to his personal information.
