How To Cut Your Workout Times In Half

How To Cut Your Workout Times In Half

Would you like to get great results from your workouts in less time?

If you're a busy executive like our clients, then here's 3 tips that can help you get more done in less time.?

My name is Andrew Marsham, I'm a qualified trainer and nutritionist and my High Performance health program has helped more than 1,200 executives in the last 6 years.

1. Don't rest between your warm up sets. You don't need rest, just take 30 seconds before your first working set.

As a side note, the first couple of exercises in your workout should have warm up sets to reduce injury risk and improve?performance.?

2. Have a plan going in. Rather than wandering aimlessly or hoping you go in and have a good workout by accident create a clear structure so you can be laser focused when you are in the gym.

With the information available in today’s world, there is no excuse not to have a downloadable program, PDF or app based plan to follow.

3. Supersets - Using back to back sets with no rest on muscle groups that don't get in the way of each other can cut workout times in half. Biceps/triceps and chest/back are my 2 favourites.

Here are 2 of my favourite time efficient supersets :

- Rope Hammer curl for biceps superset with Rope tricep press downs?

- Incline DB chest press superset with Incline DB bench row?

Same piece of equipment in both cases you can hit them back to back with a few seconds in between to setup and catch your breath and we don't really see any negative effects on the results.

Losing weight can be hard enough, but it can be especially tricky when you’ve got “do this, do that” advice coming from all corners of the internet.

So to get you started here are a couple of weight loss myths I hear on a regular basis

“Fats will make you fat”

When you consume fat in the context of a health balanced meal it can actually help to promote weight loss.

Healthy fats can help to stabilise blood sugar, keep you fuller for longer, reduce snacking and in turn help to reduce the amount of daily calories you’re consuming, Eating good quality fats actives leptin which is a hormone in your body that sends a signal to your brain to say that you’ve had enough fat to nourish your cells thus helping to reduce your appetite .

Its also important to understand that body weight it just one piece of the puzzle that makes up a healthy person. Relying on a quick fix diet fad is more likely to cause more harm than good.

“Crash diets = successful weight loss”

A calorie deficit promotes weight loss. But depriving yourself of the food you enjoy to cut calories is likely to back fire, And whilst fad diets may help you to lose weight in the immediate short term, they're impossible to stick to in the long term because of their restrictive nature.

“Eating late will make you gain weight”

Weight gain and weight loss comes down to a simple equation of calories in versus not enough calories out, regardless of the time of day

Our client Eric is a CFO and has an incredibly busy schedule that involves long hours and travel.

He came to us looking to become healthier and lose weight.

At 254 lbs, he was struggling to perform many everyday activities.

Keeping up with his children was becoming difficult and he was looking for some accountability, help with structuring his diet (both when travelling and at home), and also having a solid structured physical activity plan.

After 11 weeks, Eric has already lost 22 lbs and is now well under 240 lbs clocking in at 232 lbs!

He’d been struggling to do this on his own and failed on multiple occasions before.

We helped him achieve this by:

  • - Building out a customised structured program that also complimented his existing CrossFit training.
  • - Creating a plan to help keep Eric on track with his nutrition.
  • - Coaching him on 1-1 calls via zoom by problem solving and setting goals

During the program Eric was also unexpectedly diagnosed with Gout and we identified the areas of diet and exercise that could both compromise and improve his performance.

Since making the changes Eric’s gout has improved and he is feeling and moving better.

He now has a fully structured health program that will continue to help him reach his long-term weight goal of 200lbs!

Because we provide a highly personalized solution when issues like this come up we are able to make dynamic changes to Eric's program on the day so he can keep moving forward.
