How Cummins’ portfolio is evolving to power a sustainable future

How Cummins’ portfolio is evolving to power a sustainable future

As a 105-year-old company, 康明斯 has continued to push the boundaries of what is possible through our brand promise of innovation and dependability and our people, allowing us to expand our presence and further strengthen our position as a global leader – and we aren’t stopping now.

In my previous newsletter article, I discussed how our winning growth strategy, Destination Zero, will allow Cummins to continue leading the industry and our customers into the next era of smarter, cleaner power. Destination Zero enables us to deliver our customers the right solution at the right time, no matter where they are on their energy journey, while reducing our impact on the planet.

To meet our customers’ current and evolving needs, we are strategically evolving our portfolio to consider today’s energy requirements and fueling and charging infrastructure, while also emphasizing what’s needed for the future. A few examples of this, which are also driving growth for Cummins over the coming years and decades, include:

  • Cummins HELM? platforms: Our HELM platforms, which loosely stands for higher efficiency, lower emissions, and multiple fuels, are at the core of our customer-driven, multi-solution approach. This year, we launched our natural gas 15-liter engine in North America and announced our next-generation, advanced clean diesel X15 engine, compliant with 2027 EPA and CARB regulations at launch. These solutions that are part of our HELM platforms approach offer our customers the ability to choose the best fuel type for their needs while reducing emissions, thereby strengthening our position to serve our customers throughout the energy transition

Earlier this year, I participated in a ‘Ride and Drive’ in a Peterbilt Model 579 truck, powered by a Cummins X15N engine. This particular engine will be rolled out in Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks, while also testing with fleets like Walmart.

  • Accelera’s Electrolyzer and eMobility businesses: Through Accelera by Cummins ’ eMobility business, we are well positioned to lead as commercial vehicle powertrains electrify and hydrogen fuel cell technology gains momentum. We offer a comprehensive range of battery electric vehicle products – including batteries, e-axles and traction drive systems – as well as hydrogen fuel cell engines and powertrain integration for electric or fuel cell electric vehicles. Additionally, we are scaling our industry-leading technical innovation in our electrolyzer business to support the burgeoning green hydrogen economy globally.

Accelera debuted a variety of next-gen eMobility products at this year’s ACT Expo in Las Vegas, NV. This included two new fuel cell engines, alongside its heavy-duty fuel cell truck with Werner Enterprises .

  • Power Systems: Our Power Systems business unit has undergone a transformation, achieving revenues of $5.7 billion in 2023 and leading our Cummins business segments in returns. A significant driver of this growth is our Data Centers segment, which is one of the largest secular growth areas at Cummins today. With this demand, we are doubling our large engine capacity to support data center customers.

In April, I visited Minnesota to celebrate Cummins Power Generation’s launch of four new generator sets to the award-winning CentumTM Series, two each powered by Cummins’ QSK50 and QSK78 engines. In response to high market demand, these new models have been engineered specifically for the most critical applications, such as data centers, healthcare facilities and waste water treatment plants.

The expansion of our portfolio has been a consistent growth driver over the past two decades, but we haven’t done this work alone. Our partnerships with key OEMs and fleet partners worldwide have enabled us to continue gaining shares in markets globally and expand our impact. Examples of our global partnerships include: Daimler Truck AG in the medium duty on-highway market in North America, Europe, India and Brazil; Isuzu Motors Ltd. in Japan and other Asia Pacific markets; and PACCAR , in the heavy duty on-highway market in North America, who also serves as our launch partner for the Cummins X15N natural gas engine.

I was honored to attend and speak at the milestone event celebrating the introduction of a new, jointly developed Cummins Inc. 6.7-liter engine to Isuzu's medium-duty truck applications in Japan.

Additionally, strategic acquisitions, including our recent acquisition of Meritor (fully integrated in 2023) positions us as a leading provider of integrated powertrain solutions across both internal combustion and electric power applications. The Meritor acquisition, specifically, brings products to our Components business that present attractive growth opportunities across our range of power solutions and applications, including ePowertrains, which are crucial for our hybrid and electric drivetrains.

Last fall, I visited our Cummins Meritor plant in North Carolina where we have a trucking display to showcase a portion of our integrated powertrain solutions.

Our commitment to innovation, customer-centric solutions, and strategic portfolio evolution continues to drive Cummins' growth globally – and delivering on our Destination Zero strategy will continue to require the deep, collective expertise and innovative minds at Cummins to navigate the journey ahead. Together, we are excited about the future and remain dedicated to delivering dependable power solutions to our customers, communities and the environment.

Favor comunicarte y conversamos Gonzalo Moreano [email protected]
