How to Cultivate Our Own Presentation Style

1. Knowing Ourselves

We can all present about the same topic. But all the presentations are going to be different. Every one of us is unique, and so are our presentation styles. That is the beauty of it.

In order to cultivate our very own presentation style, we can focus on the following:

  1. Be authentic
  2. Be vulnerable
  3. Be enthusiastic
  4. Be honest
  5. Be yourself

We will win our audience's attention, every time. ??

2. Our Audicence First

Remember, your presentation should not be about you or for you. Our focus should be on the people we are speaking to. Our message should be adapted to and ressonate with the audience. Before the speech, think about the following:

  1. Why do I want to share this with the audience?
  2. What is the value I want to pass to them?
  3. What's the best way to do it?
  4. Why should they listen to me?

With this in mind, we create much more impact in every presentation do. ??

3. Creating Visual Harmony

Rule of thumb: Avoid using complex language and data.

Unless we are presenting an article or thesis about VO2 Thin Films and Nanoparticles for Energy-Saving Applications in Architectural Elements, less is more when it comes to complexity of information.

Using minimal text and using great quality images will facilitate comphension and keep our audience interested during longer periods of time, rather than getting everyone bored halfway through it.

Make things interesting and exciting, your own way. ??

4. Dynamic Delivery

It's not about what we show and tell. It's about HOW we show and tell.

On the one hand, one can be presenting extensive annual reports and still ignite the audience with enthusiasm and engagement, in a dynamic way.

On the other hand, one can be talking about a new planetary discovery with such low energy, monotuous tone and boredom, that people will disconnect easily.

Show real interest about the subject you are going to present, and you can be sure that the audience will follow you until the end. ??

5. Feedback

Let's be clear about this one: We can only improve the things we are AWARE of.

This is exactly why getting feedback is essential. We can receive feedback from others, and we can also receive it from ourselves.

One way to make our own self assessment can be to record our practice presentations. This is a great way to analyse our performance, identify points of improvement we were not aware of, and upgrade our public speaking skills on our own.

Being open for feedback means being open for improvement. ??

6. Continuous Evolution

Practice makes Progress. And Progress is Unlimited. Therefore, practice should be continuous throughout our lives and we should take every opportunity to become better, even if by 1% at a time.

Remember:

May you cultivate your best presentation style and inspire everyone with your presentations. ?

It is really important to look and think about who is in front of us and not just how we want the presentation to be made. Knowing how to captivate people is knowing how to look at them and understand if they are liking it or not, adapting the presentation to capture their attention. Congratulations and thank you for your article!
