There are two sunsets in this photo: the actual sun and this Rooftop Unit! The unit has been well maintained and in operation for the last 22 years, but the cost-benefit of replacing it may already be well worth a new upgrade. Additional investigations, such as a retro-commissioning of the system, would help determine whether replacing this unit is necessary or if it can continue operating efficiently for a few more years. #commissioning #buildingcommissioning #existingbuildingcommissioning #ebcx #retrocommissioning #rcx

Specification 230553, "Identification for HVAC Piping and Equipment," indicates equipment labels to be 3 inches in height but does not indicate what should happen if the equipment is smaller than the label itself! Nameplates allow for O&M personnel to easily determine what equipment they are looking at from a distance. No issues here! #commissioning #buildingcommissioning

Thorough reverification of issues discovered during the Functional Testing portion is a key task in Commissioning. SES engineers’ thorough reverification process often discovers unresolved or partially resolved issues. Visual issues such as the refrigerant piping identification on this roof and less photographic issues like sensor calibration or economizing sequences are all extensively reviewed to ensure our clients’ buildings are built with efficiency, occupant health, and safety in mind. #commissioning #buildingcommissioning #functionaltesting

Originally built in 1887 as the Aeolian Company’s piano factory, this historic building is being transformed into 82 apartments. In keeping with its architectural legacy, century-old timbers have been sandblasted to reveal their natural beauty and will remain exposed in many areas. Our team is providing MEP commissioning services to ensure the systems perform efficiently in the building's new chapter as the Tremont Flats! #commissioning #buildingcommissioning #historicalrenovation

?? Inspiring the next generation of green leaders! ?? SES Principal Ernie Lawas had the honor of speaking on a Green Careers Panel at Simsbury High School last week. It was an incredible opportunity to share insights about the commissioning field and discuss the impact that sustainable building practices can have on our communities and the environment. We’re proud to support young minds interested in making a difference and pursuing careers that prioritize sustainability. Thank you to Simsbury High School for inviting us to be part of this meaningful event! #GreenCareers #Sustainability #FutureLeaders #Commissioning #STEM

Sustainable building often means retrofitting existing historical buildings, for example, this middle school that was built in 1923. We often see the intersection of early 20th-century building methods, such as this original chimney, with new technologies like this solar hot water heating system (large metal tank on the left) and condensing boiler system (grey tanks and boilers to the right). Although modernizing historical landmarks has unique challenges, SES knows the net benefits of reducing embodied carbon from the construction process and preserving the historic aesthetic are always worth the effort. #commissioning #buildingcommissioning #historicalbuilding #sustainablebuilding #historicalrenovation

For several months, SES has been conducting site visits to Choate’s Carr Hall Admissions Center project, reviewing the installation of thermal and moisture control products at the slabs, foundation walls, and underground garage. During our last visit, vertical construction was underway, and we’re looking forward to the start of MEP work! We’re privileged to provide both envelope and MEP commissioning services for this project, allowing us to follow the construction from initial sitework through to post-occupancy. #commissioning #buildingcommissioning

SES was in Boston to review the ongoing MEP progress at the apartments at 288 Harrison. We love seeing the progress made on the final installations. The contractors have done some great work! SES witnessed some preliminary balancing readings in the apartment spaces—this is an important aspect to ensure system energy efficiency is optimized. We're looking forward to functional testing to help ensure a healthy and efficient building for the future residents! #commissioning #buildingcommissioning

SES visited the Brooklyn VA Medical Center to witness boiler safety device testing. This testing is a crucial portion of turnover for all VA boiler plants and involves systematically testing and verifying that safety devices are set at the proper settings. It’s important that the design team include all isolation valves, drain ports and pressure gauges in the piping layouts so that the testing process can be followed. Following successful completion of the testing, the boiler will then undergo 30-day performance verification testing, during which the system will need to operate without faults or trips for 30 days before turning it over to the owner. #commissioning #buildingcommissioning
