When I heard from Gary Vaynerchuk that LinkedIn for Small Business was the next big thing I sought out the best in the world and found my friends and mentors Joshua B. Lee and Jordan Mendoza and had them on the www.verticalmomentumpodcast.com

These are some things I learned:

As we know the business world is ever changing, LinkedIn has emerged as THE definitive platform for establishing authority and expanding your influence.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of learning from the best in the business. Their insights have profoundly shaped my approach to LinkedIn, and I want to share five strategies I have gleaned from them to help you build YOUR authority on this platform.

1) CRAFT A COMPELLING PROFILE:

Your LinkedIn profile is your digital business card. It is the first impression you make, so make it count.

Actionable Step:

Start with a professional profile photo and a headline that clearly states your value proposition.

For instance, instead of "Marketing Specialist" try "Helping Brands Grow With Data Driven Marketing Strategies I 10+ Years Experience."

Your summary should be a compelling story that showcases your expertise, achievements, and unique value. Joshua advises using the "past, present, future" format: What have you done in the past? What are you currently doing? What are your future goals?

This narrative approach not only humanizes your profile but also highlights your professional journey and goals. People do business with those they know, like and trust.

2) ENGAGE AUTHENTICALLY:

Engagement is the key to visibility and influence on LinkedIn. Authentic engagement fosters genuine connections and builds trust.

Jordan talks about how we should dedicate time each day to comment thoughtfully on posts in your niche. Instead of generic comments like "Great Post" add value by sharing your perspective or asking a question.

For example, if someone posts about the latest marketing trends, you could comment "I agree that personalization is key. Have you found any tools particularly effective for segmenting your audience?" It also keeps the conversation going feeding the algorithm.

Also, Jordan emphasizes the importance of consistency. Engaging regularly keeps you on top of your networks mind and helps you build a reputation as an active and valuable resource in your niche.

3) SHARE VALUABLE CONTENT:

Consistently sharing valuable content positions you as a thought leader. Your content should educate, inspire, or entertain your audience.

LinkedIn articles allow long form content like this, where you can delve deeper into your topics. Write an article on a subject you are passionate about and knowledgeable in, such as "5 Innovative Marketing Strategies For 2024."

Additionally, use LinkedIn's video feature to share short form videos. These can be quick tips, industry updates, or even behind the scenes looks at your business.

5) BUILD AND NURTURE RELATIONSHIPS:

I am a relationship guy. Networking is at the heart of LinkedIn. Building and nurturing relationships is essential for long term success.

Start by connecting with industry peers, potential clients, and influencers. When sending relationship requests, personalize your message.

Mention how you found them and why you are interested in connecting. For example "Hey Frank, I came across your article on sustainable marketing and found it incredibly interesting and would love to connect and learn more about your work in this area."

Once connected, nurture these relationships by staying in touch. I am friends with everyone that has ever been on the show. Congratulate them on their achievements, share their content, and even reach out for virtual coffee chats.

Joshua emphasizes that genuine relationships lead to collaborations and opportunities that can significantly boost your authority.
