How To Crush LinkedIn In 2024

How To Crush LinkedIn In 2024

As we enter the new year, I want to discuss how to win in 2024 on LinkedIn's professional platform.

LinkedIn has enormously evolved over the past two years to be barely recognizable for those of us who have been here for multiple years. Forget all the rules you learned and things that used to work in the good old days.

Let’s be honest: some of you are discouraged by a deep dip in numbers.

That is because you don’t want to accept that things are different.

2024 will be a brand new game so you’ll have to adapt if you want to succeed on LinkedIn.

As someone who tracks their performance closely, I’d like to share with you some of my thoughts on what will work in 2024.

Whether or not you agree with my advice, you must take new actions to succeed on LinkedIn in 2024. Ignore at your own risk!

Here are my 2024 top five predictions:

1. More Pre-Planned And Less Spontaneous Posts

In the old days of LinkedIn, one could still “wing it,” but I am betting that in 2024, those days are long gone.

If you want success, you’ll need an editorial calendar and to plan out your content in advance.

The one who posts GREAT content the most frequently will win 2024. Will that be you?

2. Professional Content Creators Will Rule

If you have been producing your own content up until now on the fly, good for you, but your time is up. Unless you are a full-time creator (professional writer, a serious YouTuber, or a graphic designer), you need to give it up. Hire a team because the standards on LinkedIn has skyrocketed in 2023 and it is clear this will only become stronger in 2024. Everyone is either a ghostwriter or has hired one. Check out the sick quality of the carousel posts and vertical videos and you’ll understand what you are up against in 2024. Amateurs stand no chance.

3. AI Commenting Will Skyrocket

I’m already seeing them everywhere. I’m talking about AI comments. The bots have arrived and they are here to stay. LinkedIn is seemingly not taking action against this, and the new plugins are multiplying by the minute. I’m not saying you need to do this, but you’ll need to find a way to keep up.

4. More Effort To Stand Out

There are many more active users on LinkedIn compared to two years ago. I’m not only referring to new profiles but talking specifically about people who regularly post content there. The word on the street is that LinkedIn is now a cool place to get new clients. All the people from X and Meta have suddenly taken interest in LinkedIn. Yes, the same people who used to laugh when I called LinkedIn a social platform. This means in 2024 the space will be more crowded and everyone will need to make more efforts to get noticed.

5. An Increase In Video Content

As attention spans shorten, I believe video is the golden ticket. Traditionally, LinkedIn has not been particularly friendly to video. But I am betting this is going to change due to a couple of factors: many GenZ are arriving on LinkedIn and video is their preferred format to consume. Secondly, with the rise of AI articles, people will be looking for more authentic content and video will be the way to show your audience it is really you. Lastly, people’s attention spans are getting shorter by the minute and reading is increasingly out so I believe this is another reason that video will be the first choice to get messages out to audiences.

Conclusion

Thoughts? What do you think of these five predictions? Have you noticed any trends that either sync with or contradict them? Please weigh in on this topic in the comments. One thing we can all agree on is that LinkedIn was and remains an incredible B2B platform for high ticket sales and career opportunities. P.S. I’ll have to post a follow-up article at the end of 2024 to see if any of my predictions came true!

I hate the bots and drunk-a-log sales pitches in DMs. How long do you think the best videos are to be to keep viewers or get them to click on it?

Fascinating article Krista Mollion - Considering that videos are much harder to produce than written content. I have not been encouraged so far by the way LI video content performs. I have been observing people who produce videos and I am not encouraged. Do you believe that video content will become more authentic as more people use AI? I also have issues with unedited AI-written content that some people reproduce, and I have started clicking away from those posts. I refuse to engage because I think it is laziness and I feel cheated because they could at least sprinkle their personal touch.

Krista, you are spot on! I've seen and heard the same info from other experts like you. I've started creating more original content, not using ChatGPT as much, and have been doing video, and I'm seeing a great uptick with engagement. It does take more "humanizing" kinds of efforts to differentiate. Excellent article!!!

Yep, AI comments becoming more difficult to detect and more video as well. With you on these. Oooh, and the "I'm being interviewed on a podcast"... When they're actually just turning 10 degrees away form the camera in their bedroom will also begin to skyrocket ??
