‘How Creative Firms are Using the “Wow” Factor in the Workplace.’

What are the biggest trends and challenges for companies operating within the advertising, media, entertainment and creative services sector? HOK’s WorkPlace team conducted a survey of global clients and here's what we learned:

Digitization of media is fueling tremendous growth across the creative industry. These firms need to find the most talented people in a highly competitive market and to accommodate them in flexible environments that will meet their changing needs.

By incorporating the “wow” factor—unexpected elements of a workplace that surprise, delight or inspire—firms can better engage their people.

The “wow” factor isn’t a look or a feature—it’s intangible. People can sense it when designers create spaces that support their individual needs and the goals and culture of an organization. It also provides a sense of purpose and possibility and engages them in multisensory, holistic ways.

Capturing and expressing what makes organizations unique doesn’t happen by chance. We need to design with intent to promote desired behaviors, feelings and outcomes. This report explores how designers are blending the “wow” factor into the next generation of creative space.
