How to create Virtual reality 360 videos!? Software and Hardware help.

How to create Virtual reality 360 videos!? Software and Hardware help.

So you want to create 360 videos for virtual reality headsets or 360 players? Why the hell  do you want to do that to yourself!? I would rather shovel cow sh@*t all day than create a 360 video, but I know me yelling at you is not going to stop your creative, determined mind, so instead of yelling I am going to help you.

First thing I recommend is waiting for a higher quality compact 360 camera to hit the market. There are some out there but not high quality yet.  Waiting will save you time, it could save you money and a huge headache, but its going to be at least 3-9 months before a good one is consumer ready.

If you can't wait any longer you will have to buy and array of cameras to get good quality so be prepared to buy some stock in gopro before you begin this process. STEP ONE: buy a 360 camera rig I bought my first one here  - and it was a 7 camera rig.

STEP TWO: buy anywhere form 6 to 14 go pros depending on the rig I recommend the 4's black, I bought mine from best buy they gave me free sd cards for all them and a discount saving me several hundred dollars...but wait you are not done yet with gopro! Back up batteries and definitely more back up sd cards, go pro doesn't come with them and you will definitely need back ups! charging packs, usb hubs! monopods just add another 2 grand to cover all this mess I purchased a lot of my beginning accessories at kolors store .

STEP THREE: YOU NEED stitching software too,  Most people use Videostitch (Studio 2) or Autopano Video pro but Autopano Video also requires you own Autopano Giga as well. Videostitch is $1000 and Autopano Video+ Giga is 900, Videostitch recommends you use PTGui as well to make templates -- so that is another $200 Autopano and Videostitch both have demos and tutorial videos but once you watch them you will want to blow your brains out for just dropping a thousand dollars on this software!

Keep in mind that Gopros have to have matching settings or it can result in messed up results. Oh don't forgot you must get a gopro remote you will really jump of a bridge without one of these....hmm so that's pretty much the video gear and software, you will probably want to get a binaural microphone I got my first one at 3dio but it's a pain to hide so you will need after effects with the plugin mettle to cover it up or blur it out.

There's a lot more and I can go further into details if I get people asking for more.

Great coverage of capturing picture! Then don't forget about capturing production sound ambisonically and with mono lav mics, post sound editing and design, and 360 processing with something like 3DCeption from Two Big Ears. Lots to do to get a 360 video out the door.
