How to create a viral piece of content?

In this Article I will tell you how to MAXIMISE the chances of your piece of content: song, music video, video post, static image, podcast, vodcast, vlog, virtually ANYTHING, going viral and hitting thousands of Shares, Comments and millions of Views on the Platforms. No matter the platforms and no matter the piece.

There is a recipe for a Viral. People chase it, throwing all kinds of stuff at the wall hoping it sticks - but they do not know that if you apply certain methodology you can almost GUARANTEE whatever you publish will go viral.

This is based on my time spent with a company that creates virals for a living, has billions of views on their properties every single month and had for the past 5 years, and thousands of pieces of content of all types imaginable that served as proof of this concept.

This is knowledge worth money, a lot of money in fact, but I'm not charging you anything for that - I only hope that you'll pass the good word about me to others and keep me in mind for your future projects ??

Alright, enough of talking. Are you ready? Let's go:

?? STEP One:

Evoking emotion. Your content CANNOT land flat. It has to trigger emotion in people. Happiness, love, hate, anger, poignancy, fear, sadness, joy, disgust, envy, admiration, excitement, sympathy, desire - it's secondary. Positive or negative - it's secondary. A LOT of virals are based around negativity. I don't support that myself, but that's what certain publishers do, because in this ecosystem it does not count why you're engaging. What counts is YOU engaging and spending time with the content. Realise how you're being played - evoking emotions is key.

?? STEP Two:

Your content must cause a physiological response in the person consuming it: e.g. laughter, increasing the heartbeat, sending shivers down someone's spine, pupil dilation, raising hairs on somebody's neck, etc. Physiological responses are a conspicuous way of getting somebody in, hook, line and sinker. If you manage to cause a physiological response, you've got yourself a lead.

?? STEP Three:

You have to build your content around topical, cultural and relatable phenomena/events, e.g. things that people would recognise from the news headlines, things that they would talk about with their friends, family, coworkers etc. Look into trending topics, tabloid headlines of the day, Google Trends etc. for the daily serving of what's needed.

?? STEP Four:

Your content has to tap into a common experience that resonates with people - so it has to be relatable, built around cultural tropes that are instantly recognised by the audience. You can also look into things that people have experienced first-hand: school years, workplace dramas, particularities of relationships, going out with friends, going shopping with their Significant Other, ups and downs of bringig up the child, etc. All depends on what part of the audience are you focusing on.

?? STEP Five:

Your content has to be sparking debates - so it must make people want to start discussing or share their opinion/view, confront the presented Point-of-View with their own OR confront the Point-of-View, presented in Comments by somebody else, with their own.

?? STEP Six:

Subtle brand placement - you MUST NOT be obnoxious. Do not ram the brand down people's throats. Inconspicuous is better. Have subtle hints peppered throughout, logo on somebody's hat, a close-up on a bottle with a branded logo at some point during the video, that kind of stuff, then a series of social handles at the end of the video. The focus is on telling the story. Tell people a story, and sneak the brand in on the down low. Invite people to your world that's got branded elements, don't force-feed them anything.

Tick all of those off ???, you're pretty much guaranteed to hit the nail on its head ?? and go viral.

Now, how you do this and structure a piece of Content the way so all Six STEPs are ticked off - that's an entirely different conversation altogether ?? Hit me up on LinkedIn and let's have a chat to see what we could do. ??

Good job! I would add (from my experince) as far as youtube goes: - producing Content which is for both sexes. Looking at Music videos stats - If video has more than 40% of female viewers it has a bigger chance to go viral. -identyfication with topic is crucial. We share content which is important to us - as far as looking up trends I would recommend ViralStat It allows to check video trends around the world in different categories, not only on youtube.

Very nice article. Emotions are what separates us from machines. They are a big part of what we are and sometimes we underrate their power.
