How to Create and Use Instagram Quotes in Your Strategy

Contrary to common belief, Instagram quotes are more than just good “filler content.”

A lot of businesses post quotes on Instagram to achieve their specific marketing goals, like driving more sales and building brand affinity.

Haven’t used Instagram quotes yet? No worries!

In the following post, we explain how to create your own Instagram quotes templates, and share some common ways that businesses use quotes in their marketing strategy:

How to Use Instagram Quotes in Your Strategy

Posting inspirational quotes on Instagram isn’t anything new, but more and more businesses are starting to create their own branded Instagram quotes posts.

People often think of quotes as filler content — the kind of thing you post on Instagram when you run out of other ideas.

But the truth is that quotes can be used for all kinds of reasons, from generating more engagement to promoting specific campaigns. Here are a few :

#1: Use Instagram Quotes to Engage Your Audience

One of the most common ways that businesses use Instagram quotes is to engage their audience and build deeper relationships.

The great thing about this strategy is that you can take it in whatever direction best fits your brand.

Take @aestheticsofjoy for example. The design-focused brand often posts colorful, happiness-inducing quotes to their feed.

If that doesn’t work for your brand, you can try something more serious and inspirational like @girlboss.

Or humorous, like @drunkelephant.

What’s so great about this strategy is that you can really take it in so many directions, like how Drunk Elephant uses Instagram quotes to show-off their funny, don’t-take-things-too-seriously personality.

Just make sure that the quotes and design style you use matches your brand and aesthetic — that’s number one.

#2: Use Instagram Quotes to Share Testimonials

Another popular strategy is to use Instagram quotes to share testimonials.

This one’s a bit more cut-and-dry than the rest, but sharing testimonials on Instagram can do great things for your business!

Take @tartecosmetics. The natural beauty company shares a ton of positive (and often humorous) testimonials on their account.

Pulling quotes directly from Twitter is pretty common these days, but you can also create custom graphics for your testimonials.

#3: Use Instagram Quotes to Start Conversations

Getting your followers to really engage with your posts can be a tough thing to do.

That’s why some businesses share intriguing and even provocative quotes — because it’s a great way to generate more activity in the post’s comments.

Take @supergoop for example. The natural sunscreen company often shares stimulating Instagram quotes about the beauty industry.

Super Goop also shares question-based Instagram quotes to answer some of the more common questions they receive.

@incmagazine takes a similar approach, often posting thought-provoking Instagram quotes to grab people’s attention, and then sharing more context about the quote in the post caption.

#4: Use Instagram Quotes to Build Product Awareness

Another great strategy is to use Instagram quotes to create product awareness with your followers. For example, if you sell an ecommerce product on Instagram, you can use quotes to remind your audience about product features and benefits (without being too salesy!).

Home decor brand @brooklinen does this, often sharing engaging and often humorous quotes that get people thinking about their products.

Direct-to-consumer mattress brand @casper also takes this approach with their Instagram quotes, often sharing product-related quotes that build brand affinity.

What’s so great about Casper’s Instagram quotes is that they seamlessly blend with their feed. To get a similar look on your account, try creating a brand color palette and then switching up the background colors of your quotes based on your palette.

#5: Use Instagram Quotes to Promote a Campaign or Project

Many businesses also use quotes to promote or draw attention to your Instagram campaigns or projects.

Shop Bando founder @jengotch did this recently on her personal Instagram account to promote her new podcast, Jen Gotch is OK…Sometimes.

The result? A collection of gorgeous and engaging Instagram posts that got a ton of love from Jen Gotch’s community!

These are just a few ways that businesses can use quotes on Instagram. Whatever direction you take, remember that quotes are more than just filler content — they can be used for all kinds of specific reasons, like driving more sales, building brand loyalty, and more.

How to Create Instagram Quotes Templates

Now that we’ve discussed how to use Instagram quotes graphics, let chat a little bit about how to create quotes in your Instagram marketing strategy.

There are tons of tools out there for creating Instagram quotes templates — from the painfully-technical to the ultra-simple. Here are two of our favorites:

#1: Canva

It’s easy to see why so many businesses use Canva to create their social images. The graphic design tool is equal parts highly-functional and easy-to-use.

To create an Instagram quotes template with Canva, simply navigate to their website, and log in or create an account.

Next, click “More…” on the far-right of the Create a design header.

On the second row of design options, you should find an option for square Instagram posts.

If you prefer a different orientation (like portrait or landscape), you can select the “Use custom dimensions” option from Canva’s homepage.

Once you’re in your design, you can easily upload your brand colors, fonts, logos, and more. But Canva also comes with their own options for fonts, colors, icons, and illustrations.

Canva also has a mobile app that comes chock-full of great design tools and functions. So if you prefer creating your social graphics on your mobile device, just download the app, log in, and you can immediately get started creating awesome templates for your quotes.

Bonus Tip:

If you’re looking to level-up your Instagram quotes game, you can try adding animations to your text!

While creating your design in Canva on desktop, add some text, then click Download and select Animated GIF/Movie as the file type.

Next, click “Preview animation” and then pick an animation style for your text. At the moment, Canva offers 6 animation options, including rise, bounce, and fade.

When you’re happy with the look, you can download as either a GIF or a movie!

#2: Adobe Spark

If you’re looking for a different tool for creating Instagram quotes, check out Adobe Spark, a free online and mobile graphic design app.

To get started with Adobe Spark, just head to their website and either log in with your Adobe credentials or create a new account.

Once logged in, you can use the main search bar to find Instagram templates.

Or you scroll down to the “Stand out on social” option to create a square Instagram post.

Once you’re in your design, you can upload images, add different text styles, backgrounds, colors, and so much more.

Unfortunately, you can only remove the Adobe Spark logo from your design the first time. After that, you’ll have to upgrade to a paid plan.

As you can see, using Instagram quotes is a great way to fill your feed with beautiful, branded content and connect with your audience at the same time!
