How to Create a Search Friendly Website

Your website has been built, it's looking great, and it's full of exciting content that clients want. How great! But before you dive into the world of internet marketing, there are a few things to keep in mind that will help your website be successful. Search engine optimization is one of those topics that seem daunting when you first hear about it but isn't too challenging once you get the hang of things.

Responsive Design

A responsive website adapts its design to the device you're viewing it on. It will ensure that the layout is consistent everywhere, regardless of what device you're viewing it on. It can be beneficial for sites trying to collect a large volume of web pages from multiple devices because it will be easy to use and all the content will be in the same place.

Content Creation

Search engines love fresh content. They also love quality content. It means that if you're trying to rank on the first page of Google, you should be spending some time every week or month updating your existing web pages and adding new ones. It can be a time-consuming process, but remember that it's an investment towards your business' online success. If you don't invest the time, your competitors will come up with all of the fresh content and your site will get left behind and forgotten.

Header Tags

When creating a design for your website, be sure to include the most appropriate headers for your site and its content. If you're unsure which title tags to use, use your best judgment and stick with Google recommendations.

Internal Linking

Internal linking is when you have links from one page to another on your website. It creates a connection between your website's pages to help your search engine rankings. An easy way to do this is to link the first couple of words in the title of one blog post or article to the later ones that are similar so that people can get a sense of what they are about before they click on it and read it. Search friendly websites make sure that the navigation at the top of each page is universal so visitors can get to any other page as quickly as possible.

Meta Description

Meta Description is a description of your site that comes up when someone is navigating to your website through a search engine. The description can be as long as you like, but keep in mind that you need to make it descriptive and engaging so that the person coming to your site will want to click through. The Meta Description tag comes up right below the website title, underneath the 'Visit Website' text.

Readability

Search engines can read words and search them with their database of information. It can be a massive help if you are ranking on the first page, but it also means that if you have too many long words that come up on your page, Google will have trouble determining what your site is about and will move on to another one.

It would help if you found a good balance of short and long words to keep an audience entertained while remaining true to what it is you're trying to sell or advertise. E-commerce websites will have a much easier time using longer words that relate to their products, whereas entertainment websites should remain on the more straightforward side.

Optimize Your Images

Because images can take a while to load on slow servers, people often skip over them when they're searching for something. However, this can be a big mistake because the image is the first thing people will see when they come across your page, and if it doesn't catch their attention, they might move on. It means making sure that you have eye-catching graphics that pop right away and get the person to click through.

Search engine optimization is a significant and daunting task, but it's one that you can start taking on now. It won't take long before you get good at these features and your site will be doing well, but the more you invest in it now, the more successful your business will become in the future.
