How to Create the Perfect Morning Routine
Your morning routine is a time for personal growth. It’s for you to have YOU time. The moment that we begin working, answering the phone, buying groceries you focus less and less on yourself.
If you could set aside the first 20 minutes of your morning, you'll feel the difference within a week! The better that you are, the better you can serve the people around you.
No two-morning routines are the same. You don’t have to have the same morning routine as I do, it’s about crafting your own. This is the time to do things for yourself and that also means enjoying what you do.
I've got 9 things that you can include in your morning routine. Don't go ahead and try all of them, start by picking a few (or incorporating your own) and then add on over time if you wish to do so.
Here are some of the tips that I have for you.
1. Plan ahead.
Make things easier for yourself by prepping everything you’ll need in the morning the night before. That way it’ll be ready for you and you’ll have no excuses not to go through with it. You're also likely to feel less rushed and on edge, because you've taken the time to sort out everything you've needed the previous night. This can include choosing your outfit for the day, laying out your morning read, etc.
2. Put your alarm clock somewhere that you’ll physically have to get up and turn it off.
I recommend using an alarm clock instead of your phone so that you can stay off your phone for as long as you possibly can. The reason I say this is because the moment that you grab your phone, you go into a reactive mode. You catch a glimpse of your notifications and messages are waiting, or a new podcast upload. It seems simple, but it makes a massive difference.
3. Figure out how much time you have in the morning.
Don’t think you have to spend an hour or two to make this work for you. You need as little as 15 minutes. Choose the things that are most important for you to start your day on a good note and decide how much time you're going to invest in each thing.
4. First thing in the morning, drink a glass of water with lemon and sea salt.
I do this every morning! I'll restore your ph balance and hydrate you, setting your body up for action.
5. Look at the sun.
If the sun is out, go outside and look at the blue in the sky (not directly at the sun). The same way that we're not meant to be looking at our phones, tablets, laptops 2-hours before bed because of the blue light, the blue light from the sun will wake you up.
6. Hold up on the caffeine.
Don’t have caffeine for an hour after waking up. The effects are far greater if you wait a while and if you want to take it a step further, switch to Yerba-mate, which is my absolute go-to for my daily caffeine kick.
7. The Miracle Morning.
If you haven’t read the book, ‘The Miracle Morning’ by Hal Elrod, then I suggest the read. Pick a few of these to include in your routine.
S - Silence. This allows your subconscious to come through
A - Affirmations. It needs to be present tense, empowering, and true.
V - Visualize. Visualize the things that you want and go through the motions of feeling it!
E - Exercise. Whatever form of exercise you enjoy.
R - Read. You only need to read a few pages each day.
S - Scribe. Ask yourself the questions that you deeply want to know and force yourself to answer them by writing them down.
8. Take a cold shower every morning.
You’ll build yourself past the mental fortitude by making yourself do something you don’t want to do. Our days are filled with tasks that we don't want to do, but to get through them, we require discipline. There are tons of benefits to taking a cold shower in the mornings and I highly suggest you read up on it, but not only will in have amazing benefits on your body but by doing something that you really don't want to do first thing in the morning, you'll already have gained a win for the day which has a massive mental impact on the rest of your day.
9. Listen to a podcast.
There's nothing like listening to something or someone that resonates with you. Find someone who can motivate you and give you that daily dose of encouragement for the day.
