Step One
Be honest in your content
I have grown my digital footprint over the years through honesty being the number one asset.
Step Two
Know your platforms
There is a diverse range of social media platforms out there, and it’s high time you get better at knowing where you can leverage them.
Step Three
Experiment - Experiment - Experiment
I am connected to the world's biggest CEOs on LinkedIn for two reasons—authenticity and experimentation. You can’t be afraid to post and create outside the box and expect to gain exposure. Learn the craft of thumbnails, yes, but also learn the means to keep experimenting so you have enough data points to dial into.
Step Four
Don't outsource
Roll up your sleeves and create something yourself. Most of my content is done as a one-man band—of course, I use a heap of GenAI—but the skill set of editing and recording short-form videos came from my hands, not an agency.
Step Five
Get onto software
What I mean by this is—use software like you’ve never used it before to gain a competitive advantage. From hands-on experience, I know there’s always a better software kit out there, but budget constraints often mean I have to make do with what I have—so I do.
Step Six
Relax and fly the plane
I often refer to this as the most important step—from the film Executive Decision. Sometimes we know what to do, but we make it too complicated and forget we just need to relax and get on with it. Enjoy the process—as long as you’ve invested in training yourself or others to help—you’ll be fine.
