How can I make a cv that reflects my abilities?

Daisy Mati

To begin with, your CV should be a truthful representation of your abilities and qualifications. No fluffs, no lies.?

Creating a CV that effectively showcases your abilities requires careful consideration and attention to detail. Here are some steps you can follow to make a CV that accurately reflects your skills and qualifications:

Format and Structure

  • Choose a clean and professional template that is easy to read and visually appealing.
  • Use clear headings and subheadings to organize different sections of your CV, such as personal information, education, work experience, skills, etc.
  • Keep your CV concise and limit it to one or two pages.

Personal Information

  • Include your full name, contact details (phone number, email address), and location.
  • Consider adding a professional summary at the beginning to provide a brief overview of your qualifications.

Education

  • List your educational background in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent degree or qualification.
  • Include the name of the institution, degree or certification earned, and the dates of attendance.

Work Experience

  • List your work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent position.
  • For each job, include the company name, job title, employment dates, and a concise description of your responsibilities and achievements.
  • Focus on quantifiable results or specific accomplishments that demonstrate your abilities and skills.

Use keywords

When you're applying for jobs online, your CV will likely be scanned by a computer for keywords that match the job description. Be sure to use keywords throughout your CV, especially in the skills section and work experience.

Additional Sections

  • Consider adding sections such as certifications, professional memberships, volunteer work, or relevant projects to further demonstrate your abilities and interests.
  • Include any language proficiencies or relevant computer skills.

Quantify your accomplishments

  • When you're describing your skills, don't just list them. Quantify your accomplishments.??This will help employers to understand the value that you can bring to their organization.
  • Include both technical and soft skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for.
  • Use bullet points to make the information easy to read and scan.

Use strong action verbs

  • When you're describing your skills and accomplishments, use strong action verbs.?This will make your CV more dynamic and engaging.

For example;

Led a team of 8 sales representatives and achieved a 25% increase in sales in quarter 1.

Tailor your CV

  • Customize your CV for each job application by highlighting the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the specific role.
  • Review the job description and requirements carefully to identify keywords and incorporate them into your CV.

Proofread and Edit

  • Double-check your CV for any spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Ensure consistency in formatting and font styles.
  • Ask a friend or mentor to review your CV for feedback and suggestions.

I hope these tips help you create a CV that will help you get the job you want.

The most important thing is to be honest and to highlight your skills and experience in a way that is relevant to the job you're applying for.

Thank you for taking time to read this post.

My big concern is that most of the potential employers don't even read or go thro the CVs. They just peruse and rest it in their shredder and you get forgotten.
