How Core Values Drive Business Success

How Core Values Drive Business Success

In this weeks episode of The Jasper Blueprint podcast, I delve into the intricate relationship between business success, core values, and meaningful leadership. I reflect on how to thrive as an established business leader in a complex world fraught with decisions, uncertainties, and constraints.

Some of the key concepts that help create a competitive edge when you merge money and meaning revolve around taking risks with support, moving beyond mere conversation into impactful action, and building a robust support system for you as a leader.

If you're keen to jump straight into this week's Jasper Blueprint podcast you can watch it here, or if you prefer to listen scroll to the bottom of this page.

I want to illustrate how these principles have shaped my business decisions and demonstrate how you can streamline your own decision-making and lead with renewed passion and purpose, by sharing our core values at Benefit Capital. To give you a sense of what they mean to us I've included the full description underneath each of our four core values.

Step into the unknown with courage

We're pioneers who think big, while keeping our eyes open and assessing the data to inform our decisions.

We're curious, problem solvers willing to give things a go when others are afraid to act. We learn through doing, gaining wisdom from experience.

We recognise that these acts of courage are risky, so we intentionally create safe and supportive spaces for our team and the leaders we work with as they navigate the unknown.

Move beyond the conversation

Good intentions aren’t good enough!

We make a difference by equipping SME leaders to be more impactful and more fulfilled.

We believe each person and each business can make a difference NOW, so we work to find the win-win.

Apprentice with the problem

We are attuned to power dynamics and seek to uncover our own unconscious biases. We deeply respect context and getting our hands dirty!

Having a passion for a particular issue is excellent, but in order to contribute to solving it you must first deeply understand the problem, the system and your place in it.

It all begins with the curiosity and openness to listen.

Create room at the table

We seek to understand and learn from a broad range of people.

We know from experience that we can't change systems on our own, and that insights gained, and outcomes achieved are richer when informed by diverse and representative communities.

For us humility means we can recognise that we face complexities bigger than us and it allows us to be open to learning new methods, trying new ideas and being shown more impactful approaches.

A Simple Reflective Exercise?

If I told you there were 3 steps you could take to dramatically improve your effectiveness as a leader and strengthen your ability to inspire your team, would you be curious?

If I told you that if you took these steps they would spark your own desire to lead your business into the next phase of your growth, would that feel like a relief and something you really need right now?

Then, if I told you that you don't need to hire a consultant, watch a training video, read a book, or spend a cent would you say: "TELL ME NOW"?

Well I'm happy to share! Here's something I do myself, and with my clients, to bring our vision for our business into sharper focus.

Three simple, free, steps to clarify and communicate your vision:

Step 1) Grab a notebook and some pens.

Step 2) Find a quiet spot and sit with a curious mind.

Step 3) Explore these two simple questions in your notebook...

Whether it’s a role, a person, a whole team or department, follow what feels exciting and capture it all on paper. I encourage you to use the insights and energy you gain from your explorations to sharpen your vision and shape the way you communicate and inspire your team.

Please feel free to share this newsletter with a business leader who needs a spark of inspiration or encouragement right now.

Leadership is hard, but it doesn't have to be lonely.
