1. GET GOALS

If you want to learn how to control your own career,?you first need to get goals. This means figuring out who you are, what you stand for, and what you want to accomplish.?

Consider the following:

• Who You Are?– Who you are is more than what your job title is. During the Soulcast Media | LIVE, Jessica said there was a point in her career where her identity was a journalist. She said this made her unsure of who she was if she wasn’t a journalist. If you want to control your own career, you have to identify who you are as a person outside of your career title.
• What You Stand For?– What you stand for will help you set personal and professional goals.
• What You Want To Accomplish?– Think about what you want to accomplish this week, month, or year.

2. PERSPECTIVE

Consider the following:

• Eyes On The Prize?– Perhaps you are currently in a job that doesn’t support the life you want to live, but it is paying the bills. If this is the case, you will want to keep your eyes on the prize. This means keeping your focus on your end goal.
• Pause And Pivot?– There will be times when things don’t go your way. Maybe you realize you don’t want to be an accountant anymore. Or perhaps the company you work for didn’t give you the promised promotion. When this happens, you need to pause and pivot.
• Fix Yourself?– During the Soulcast Media | LIVE, Laurie emphasized the importance of fixing yourself rather than trying to fix your work. This means not relying on a company or job to give you the life you want to live.

If you are feeling stuck, the best thing you can do is shift your perspective. Keep your eyes on the prize, and pivot when you need to. This will help you take control of your career.

3. SET YOUR INTENTIONS

Before you know it, you could be working at a company for five years without making a dent in your goals. This is why it is so essential for you to set your intentions. You take control, rather than allowing the day to control you when you set your intentions.

Consider the following:

• Professional Detachment?– One way to ensure you are taking control of your own career and setting the right intentions is to acquire professional detachment. This means treating every job like your favorite client.
• Career Integrity?– When you set your intentions, you do your work with integrity, but you don’t let your job run you to the ground.
• Fulfilled?– Setting intentions will help you feel more fulfilled personally and professionally.
