Clear Up the Confusion: Social Media Content Posting Explained
Over recent discussions with many financial advisors and firm owners, a recurring theme has emerged: there are many misconceptions about social media content posting.
Let’s clear up the confusion by breaking down what content posting means, how it works, and why it’s essential for building your brand and generating leads.
1. What is Social Media Content Posting?
Content posting involves creating posts on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X. A post can be a combination of text, images, or videos, shared on your personal or business profile. This form of posting is organic, meaning it’s entirely free—no payments to the platform for exposure. In essence, content posting is about communicating your message effectively to your audience.
Example: A post on LinkedIn might include a compelling text about financial planning tips, followed by an informative video or infographic. This content is designed to engage and educate your audience.
Here's one of my recent post on LinkedIn.
2. Who Sees Your Posts?
This is often where the biggest misunderstanding lies. When you post on LinkedIn, your content is initially shown to a small subset of your first-degree connections (those directly connected to you). But it doesn’t stop there.
Based on the engagement your post receives, LinkedIn’s algorithm may also show it to second-degree connections (friends of friends) and even beyond, increasing your visibility significantly.
Key Insight: From my experience, about 50-60% of the people who see your post are your immediate network, while 40-50% come from LinkedIn’s extended reach. This means more visibility and more opportunities to connect with potential clients.
3. Building Your Brand Through Content Marketing
Why is content marketing so important? It’s a powerful way to build your brand, spread your message, and generate leads. The main metric to track here is ‘impressions’—the number of times your post is seen. High impressions indicate strong visibility, which can lead to more business opportunities.
