Here’s the uncomfortable truth: most coaches are underpricing their services. ??♂?
Many believe that lower fees will make them more attractive to potential clients, but in reality, it often signals a lack of confidence and undervalues the transformation being offered.
Let’s break down some of the unspoken challenges around pricing in the coaching world.
Low Prices Attract the Wrong Clients
Setting prices too low can make a coach seem like a bargain option, drawing in clients who may not fully value the work or remain committed to the process. People are often more invested when they’ve made a meaningful financial commitment. Charging what a service is truly worth boosts confidence and attracts clients serious about transformation.
High Prices Reflect High Value
Pricing isn’t just about covering costs—it communicates the value being delivered. Higher prices often create a perception of high value. Setting prices in alignment with the actual impact positions a coach as a premium service provider. Clients who understand the importance of their transformation will be willing to pay for it.
Stop Apologizing for Rates—Own Them
Many coaches feel uncomfortable discussing their rates, leading to discounting or over-explaining. Instead, standing firm and confident in the value provided is critical. Knowing the impact that coaching can deliver means there’s no need to apologize for pricing. Clients respect coaches who confidently stand by their worth.
Conclusion
Pricing is not just about numbers—it’s about recognizing worth and charging accordingly. Undervaluing services limits both the coach's expertise and the potential impact.

1 个月This is such an essential topic! ?? Many coaches overlook that pricing there services requires serious thought and work. It's not about looking at what everyone else is doing or pick a number you think 'people can afford'. Charging confidently isn’t just about pricing but is about positioning. Attracting clients who are invested often stems from reflecting value in your rates. If you're not sure and confident in the value you provide, and I'm talking quantifiable value, as in $$$, do this instead: Encourage clients to quantify their potential ROI from coaching—transforming cost into a true investment. Ask your clients, What is this worth to you? If they say something subjective, ask them to put a dollar amount on it. You now know exactly what value your service provides. Then you can confidently ask for that value. If your prospective client doesn't value the solution the same way, that's OK. Move on to the ones who do. This way, pricing becomes a powerful tool for screening and fostering a high-commitment client base who sees the long-term value in transformation.
We are, and should be, our biggest critics but the down size of that is we can question our value as a coach. Combine that with the reluctance, even fear, we have in asking people for money and the worry that our price, and therefore me the person, will be rejected, it is no surprise that many coaches undervalue their work. Negotiating against our elves to offer a price that is below the value we offer. I agree whole heartedly with Jamie "stop apologizing for rates". and be confident in the value you offer. To help with this know what you are actually offering, have a clear and concise way of communicating that to a client, treat the initial meeting as a mutual selection process - maybe they are not worthy to be coached by you? - and be prepared for a No or a Yes.
Jaimie Skultety, affordable pricing can indeed blur the perceived value of coaching services, potentially attracting less committed clients. Balancing affordability with value is essential for sustainable growth and effective transformations.
