Captain Obvious says: With the pandemic, came remote work/work from home and hybrid work. What wasn't so obvious was how companies were to adjust their hiring practices to accommodate this demand. And where applicable and practical, that benefit demand persists from both candidates interviewing for job opportunities AND for new hires coming on board.
Some companies have it figured out, others are stuck in their ways, and everyone else is somewhere in between. For those organizations struggling with finding a middle ground or some semblance of a solution to this persistent tug of war, here are some ways that companies are adjusting to remote/work-from-home demands from job candidates and new hires:
1.???Remote Onboarding: Companies are now conducting remote onboarding processes to ensure that new hires have a smooth transition into their new roles. This includes providing access to online training modules, virtual tours of the workplace, and video calls with HR and team members.
2.???Digital Collaboration Tools: With remote work becoming the norm, companies are investing in digital collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Asana to facilitate communication and collaboration among remote teams.
3.???Flexible Work Hours: Many companies are offering flexible work hours to accommodate the unique scheduling needs of remote workers. This allows new hires to work when they are most productive and to balance work with their personal lives.
4.???Remote Training: Companies are providing remote training to new hires to help them develop the skills needed for their roles. This includes access to online training courses, virtual workshops, and mentoring programs.
5.???Virtual Social Events: To help new hires feel connected to their colleagues, companies are organizing virtual social events such as happy hours, team-building exercises, and online games.
6.???Remote Equipment and Supplies: Companies are providing remote workers with the necessary equipment and supplies to ensure that they have a comfortable and productive work environment. This includes laptops, monitors, chairs, and office supplies.
Overall, companies are adapting to the remote/work-from-home demands of new hires by implementing new policies, investing in digital collaboration tools, and offering remote training and support. This allows new hires to feel connected, productive, and engaged in their roles, even when working remotely.

Bottom line: some (most?) of your competitors have simply decided to trust the talent they covet to work remotely/from home. Considering it a benefit and the cost of doing business in 2023. If yours is not...well, that's your choice and your right.
But know one thing...if you still don't like it and are biding your time for the pendulum to swing back the way of the employer, you may be waiting a long while (and missing out on talent offering years of upside and productivity for years, if not decades, to come).
Is that really a choice you can afford to make?
