How to Come Back From a Deficit - 4 Steps to Take

Entrepreneurs, like athletes, know the ups and downs of competition, and often face obstacles, challenges and deficits. Tonight, the Yankees are facing an uphill climb if they want to emerge victorious in this year’s World Series. When reading this article, please substitute yourself in the place of the Yankees, as some of these tips may help you emerge on the winning side!
?
Facing a 2-0 World Series deficit is tough—but if anyone knows how to rise from the ashes, it’s the New York Yankees. While the Dodgers might be feeling a little too comfortable, here’s how the Yankees can turn the tide and pull off a fantastic and improbable comeback.
?
1) Dump the negative thoughts. Sure, the Dodgers seem to have all the momentum, but the Yankees need to focus on their strengths, not their opponent’s highlight reel. When the pressure’s on, negative thoughts are like extra weight on your bat. Remind yourself that slumps end, no matter how rough they seem in the moment. Look at the Yankees’ history—they’ve weathered worse and come out swinging.
?
2) Visualization is key to making that comeback reality. Picture it: Gerrit Cole winding up, crowd roaring, Dodger hitters swinging wildly at thin air. Aaron Judge, shaking his slump, sends a ball deep into the night’s air, landing in Monument Park 420+ feet away.
?
The Yankees should imagine themselves playing their best ball—power at the plate, clean throws, and clutch plays that will have the Dodgers, and their fans silenced. Visualizing success doesn’t just calm nerves, it creates muscle memory. Instead of focusing on the outs, players need to see the hits before they happen.
?
3) And let's talk about embracing a winner’s mentality. The Yankees know what it’s like to feel the thrill of victory, so they need to lean into that past glory. Adopting a winner’s mindset means taking control of the game—playing aggressive but smart. Seize opportunities, stretch out those base hits, and keep the pressure on the Dodgers' bullpen. As Yogi Berra famously said, “It ain’t over till it’s over.”
?
4) Finally, it’s about focusing on one game, one inning, one pitch at a time. Just because they’re down two games doesn’t mean it’s over—plenty of teams have clawed back from worse. With discipline, vision, and a winner's mentality, the Yankees can absolutely rally. And, hey, if they come out on top, they'll remind everyone that the Bronx Bombers don’t just play baseball; they define it.
?
So, here’s to hoping they dig deep and bring home World Championship #28, one pitch, one inning, and one game at a time!
?
Let’s Go Yankees!
?
(Sidenote: all opinions stated above are those of a diehard Yankees fan. If you’re a Dodgers fan, please feel free to ignore the advice above until after the World Series and in the meantime, visualize a Yankees victory. After all, I need to be partisan on this one!)

It’s easy to think, 'I’m not ready' or 'I don’t know enough,' but in reality, we know more than we give ourselves credit for.
