What is?chatGPT?

ChatGPT is a computer program that can have a conversation with you. It can understand and respond to follow-up questions, admit when it is wrong, and challenge incorrect information. ChatGPT is also able to recognize and reject inappropriate requests. This makes it easier for you to have a natural and helpful conversation with a computer. ChatGPT is related to another program called InstructGPT, which can follow instructions and provide detailed responses.

How does it work and why is that a breakthrough?

GPT-3 (Generative Pre-training Transformer 3) is a computer program that can write text that sounds like it was written by a person. It was trained using a lot of text data, and can be used for different tasks involving language, like translating or answering questions. GPT-3 is the latest version of this program and it is very big, with over 300 billion words of training data. For perspective, that's about as many words gathered by Google as they digitalized all books published since 1800.

Openai.com used a lot of data and people to train the program. They had people play the roles of both a user and a computer assistant in conversations, and ask them to rank suggestions written by the program. The program learnt from the interaction with human.

ChatGPT understands the context of the discussion and remember what was discussed previously as a human would in a normal conversation. ChatGPT can handle about 4000 words of context (the last State of the nation speech was about 8000 words).

?[The above paragraphs were generated by chatGPT based on descriptions available on openai.com website and other blogs, prompting the program to simplify language. Some editing was needed to validate the quantitative benchmarks.]

How can you use?chatGPT?

  1. Sign-up to https://chat.openai.com/
  2. Read the terms and condition. You own the prompt and rights to the output. Don’t input confidential information.?
  3. This is a demo, free of use but that could be monetized in the future.
  4. You can resume a conversation you started with chatGPT. The tools is asynchronous and keeps context within a chat stream.

How can you efficiently collaborate with chatGPT in your day to day work?

1. Research a field of interest and summarize findings

Prompt: 'List companies manufacturing heavy equipment, summarize in a table with website.'

2. Summarize complex articles or memo

For example, the 5 page section about AI from the Deloitte technology trend report below...

Deloitte.com

is summarized by chatGPT as

  • AI is not always trusted by business leaders, workers, and consumers, which can hinder its adoption in enterprises.
  • Leading organizations are working to address issues that diminish trust in AI implementations by considering the various stages where humans interact with the AI system.
  • Data transparency, algorithmic explainability, and AI reliability are key to building trust in AI.
  • Ensuring AI reliability involves taking a rigorous approach, such as documenting and enforcing MLOps processes.
  • Generative AI, which creates new content rather than just processing and analyzing existing data, is emerging as a new trend. This type of AI requires higher levels of trust, as it is generating new content rather than just processing and analyzing existing data.

3. Write a job description

The below prompt I gave to chatGPT was strategic and high level. The AI was able to identify specific elements of our strategy, desired end-customer experience and translate this into specific deliverables :

  3. Stakeholders: The stakeholders for this project include Caterpillar Construction Services division, US dealers, and the development team.
  4. Deliverables: The deliverables for this project include a fully functional and tested Cat App, user guides and training materials, and a plan for ongoing support and maintenance.
  5. Timeline:

  • Sprint 1 (2 weeks): Define project scope and objectives, assemble development team
  • Sprint 2 (2 weeks): Conduct market research, gather requirements from US dealers
  • Sprint 3 (2 weeks): Design and prototype the Cat App
  • Sprint 4 (2 weeks): Develop and test the Cat App for iOS
  • Sprint 5 (2 weeks): Develop and test the Cat App for Android

To mitigate these risks, the project team will conduct frequent communication with stakeholders, conduct thorough testing, and have a plan in place for adapting to changes as needed.

4. Find solutions in Excel to prepare and analyze data

The prompt describes the problem in non-technical terms:

Aucun texte alternatif pour cette image

chatGPT answers:

To separate the dealer code from the customer number in Excel, you can use the following formula:

=LEFT(A1,FIND("_",A1)-1)

This formula will extract the text before the underscore (_) character in cell A1 and return it as the result.

To extract the customer number, you can use a similar formula:

=RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-FIND("_",A1))

This formula will extract the text after the underscore character in cell A1 and return it as the result.

You can then copy and paste these formulas into the cells where you want to display the separated dealer code and customer number. Be sure to replace A1 with the cell reference that contains the merged dealer code and customer number.

For example, if the merged dealer code and customer number are in cell A1, you can use the following formulas:

In cell B1: =LEFT(A1,FIND("",A1)-1)

In cell C1: =RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-FIND("",A1))

This will extract the dealer code and customer number and display them in cells B1 and C1, respectively.

Here is an other example describing a business need to combine data across tables.

To analyze sales by category by segment in Excel, you can use the following steps:

  1. In your INVOICE table, add a column for the SEGMENT. You can do this by using the VLOOKUP function to look up the segment for each customer based on the customer number in the SEGMENT table.
  2. In your INVOICE table, add a column for the CATEGORY. You can do this by using the VLOOKUP function to look up the category for each part based on the part number in the CATEGORY table.
  3. Use a pivot table to summarize the data in your INVOICE table by SEGMENT and CATEGORY. To do this, select the data in your INVOICE table and go to the Insert tab, then click on Pivot Table.
  4. In the pivot table, drag the SEGMENT and CATEGORY columns to the Rows area, and drag the Quantity and Price columns to the Columns area. This will create a pivot table that shows the quantity and price for each combination of SEGMENT and CATEGORY.
  5. To see the total sales for each combination of SEGMENT and CATEGORY, you can add a calculated field to the pivot table. To do this, right-click on the pivot table and select PivotTable Options, then go to the Fields, Items, & Sets tab and click on Calculated Field.
  6. In the Calculated Field dialog box, enter a name for the calculated field (e.g. "Total Sales"), enter the formula "Quantity * Price" in the Formula field, and click OK. This will add a new column to the pivot table showing the total sales for each combination of SEGMENT and CATEGORY.
  7. You can also use filters to only show data for specific SEGMENTS or CATEGORIES, or to exclude data for certain SEGMENTS or CATEGORIES. To do this, click on the dropdown arrow for the SEGMENT or CATEGORY field in the pivot table, and select the items you want to include or exclude.

By following these steps, you can easily analyze sales by CATEGORY by SEGMENT in Excel using the INVOICE, CATEGORY, and SEGMENT tables.

5. Develop a 3-tier customer coverage strategy

There are several factors you might consider when deciding which tier of sales rep coverage is appropriate for a particular customer. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Account size: Larger accounts may warrant more direct coverage, while smaller accounts may be better suited for indirect or marketing coverage.
  2. Account potential: High-potential accounts may warrant more direct coverage to maximize the chances of closing a sale, while lower-potential accounts may be better suited for indirect or marketing coverage.
  3. Account complexity: Complex accounts with multiple stakeholders and decision-makers may require more direct coverage to ensure that all relevant parties are engaged and informed.
  4. Customer preferences: Some customers may prefer more direct contact with a sales rep, while others may be more comfortable with indirect or marketing coverage. Consider the preferences of each customer when deciding which tier of coverage is appropriate.

9. Propose smalltalk triggers relevant to a business context

Propose 5 triggers for smalltalk relevant to today's social, economic, cultural context. Make it more specific providing actual example knowing we are jan 4th, I am in geneva, I will be meeting a dealer from the united state today who is a big fan of ice hockey

Here are five specific triggers for smalltalk that may be relevant given the context you described:

  1. The weather in Geneva: You could ask the dealer about the weather in their location and compare it to the weather in Geneva. You could discuss any recent weather events or any notable differences between the two locations.
  2. Current events in the United States: You could ask the dealer about their thoughts on any recent news events happening in the United States or share your own perspective on current events.
  3. Ice hockey: Given that the dealer is a big fan of ice hockey, you could ask them about their favorite teams or players, or share your own interest in the sport.
  4. Travel: You could ask the dealer about any recent trips they have taken or any destinations they are interested in visiting in the future.
  5. Personal experiences: You could share a personal story or experience related to your own interest in ice hockey, or ask the dealer about their experiences with the sport.

Asking for events specific to Illinois that could be used as smalltalk trigger:

  • The Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2016: This was a major event for baseball fans in Illinois and the rest of the United States.
  • The 2020 United States presidential election: Illinois is a swing state, so the outcome of the election may have been of particular interest to residents of the state.
  • The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic: Illinois has been significantly impacted by the pandemic, with high numbers of cases and deaths reported in the state. You could discuss the response to the pandemic in Illinois and any related challenges or successes.
  • Protests and civil unrest in Chicago: There have been protests and demonstrations in Chicago related to racial justice, police violence, and other issues in recent years. You could discuss these events and the impact they have had on the community.
  • The proposed Chicago casino: There has been recent news about the possibility of a casino being built in Chicago, which has generated significant debate and discussion. You could discuss the pros and cons of this proposal and any related developments.

10. Find team building activities

Very very insightful article - thank you Beno?t! And my best wishes for the New Year ??

I’m currently using it as a great digital assistant for example if I’m writing a trends deck I might ask it for different flavors in a specific category (eg I just asked it for 20 interesting margarita recipes), or capabilities (eg what are the best practices for corporate venture capital funds)… it might get me 70-80% of the way there as a starting point and then I can edit and build on top
