Throughout the bulk of my corporate career, I was not much of a collaborative communicator or leader.
It was more of ‘It’s my way or the highway’ approach I took to everything.
That style of leadership eventually landed me in a parking lot with a pink slip in my hand, and not because I wasn’t a massive producer or revenue generator either.
It didn't happen quickly, my career spanned twenty-five plus years.
But, it did happen just as I was reaching my career peak. It all came crashing down.
Why?
Well, what I eventually learned about myself after walking through what I call my 'excavation of my soul', is that I was extremely unsuccessful at building trust-based relationships, effectively engaging collaboratively with anyone; employees, peers, or bosses, or being authentically confident versus faking it through major bouts of impostor syndrome.

As a leader, let alone a female leader, it is absolutely vital that you gain the appropriate confidence in yourself that isn’t easily intimidated into being someone you’re not, or to lash out on others to disguise your fears and insecurities.
You don’t want to be that cocky, arrogant kind, as I possessed for many years, but the self-assured and confident woman with all of your talents, skills, expertise, and experience shining a bright light on what you are capable of contributing to your team and business.
In turn, you emulate confidence in your relationships with a desire to help and see others succeed; not just yourself.
Over the last 14 years, the greatest lesson I’ve learned is that collaboration and communication are the ultimate keys to success.?
