How to cold email investors
Like every investor I get a ton of cold emails from entrepreneurs asking for money. They suck and are a complete waste of everyone’s time.
Never cold email investors!
Except…
It turns out there is one cold email investors are happy to get.
Please feel free to send update emails about your company. A simple short note about what you do, what you have recently done and what is coming next. The same update you send to your existing investors. If you send it on the same cadence as you update your insiders it slowly lets potential investors watch you at work. Hopefully it teaches about your market and your approach. It lets the reader learn if you live up to your promises, how you deal with adversity and gauge your insight into your market. It accomplishes one of the hardest and most important hurdles for an entrepreneur and investor, it builds trust.
So feel free to send them on over. Maybe eventually we can do something great together.

7 年Not always. The world of the investor can become insular and robotic. Always leave a little room for the unexpected.

7 年Cold emails signify a founder hasn't developed enough connections and/or clout. A founder needs to work on both for a minimum of 3 years. I ignore 99.99% of cold emails. Special people that ooze clout don't need cold emails either, people will just go out of their way to open doors for them. If noone is going out of their way, go back to step one and work on relevant connections (in-person!) and domain expertise.

7 年Yes I like but basically you spread internal information to people with who you have no connection. I will be carefully in a way to spread too widely my updates of not PR materials
