How to climb the leadership ladder?

India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with the 3rd largest startup ecosystem; expected to witness YoY growth of consistent annual growth of 12-15%. The median age of the 1.4 billion population is 28.4. Most new industries are fast-paced, and one can climb the ladder of leadership/managerial positions in the initial 2 to 5 years of the career based on their potential.

Leadership is one of the top 5 most demanding skills. It is a skill that can be built through practice. However, it is a skill set that needs to be acquired.?

A few years back, I was lucky to be promoted to a team leader’s position. I was the youngest amongst other team leaders and always wondered why I got selected. After observing a sufficient number of leaders around me in their journey, I summarized the essential traits which could be identified in potential leaders.

These qualities, if practiced over time with honesty and dedication, can lead anyone to climb the leadership ladder.

1. Willingness to take responsibility voluntarily.

2. Always deliver more than expected.

3. Courageous: Be the decision maker, not just a follower.?

4. Problem-solving attitude: A problem is an opportunity.

5. Collaborative and Effective communicator.

6. Keep tasks aligned to the big vision of the organization.

7. Inspire & influence others by doing actions, not just speech.

8. Becoming good at the management of self and people. The literal meaning of Management is ManageME and ManageMEN.

9. Ability to survive in High-Pressure situations: Pressure is Nutrition.

10. Highly Adaptive to diverse situations/scenarios: Having a Growth Mindset.

It doesn't matter whether you are from a premier institute or not and you are young or old etc. What only matters is the true potential to become a LEADER.

CURIOSITY and GENEROSITY are the two seeds that result in building up the mentioned traits.
