How to clean up your mucky message

How to clean up your mucky message

Picture this... (always reminds me of Sophia, so let me channel my inner Sophia for a moment)

When I decided that I wasn't going back to my consultancy business in 2018, I really was cheesed off with marketing. I didn't believe it could give me the support, and flexibility to attend all of the appointments with my daughter (she has Down Syndrome) and earn a living. I had worked on huge clients, Ryanair, Bank of Ireland, Volkswagen, Ferrero, to name a few. But I didn't have the bandwidth for long hours and spreadsheets or why a 2+ reach TV strategy at low levels wasn't going to work in Ireland, even if Paris said it had to, anymore.

So...

I retrained as a kids yoga teacher! (I know!)

Then... well March 2020, need I say more?

And then slowly but surely the universe pushed me back to marketing. Yoga teachers that I met at yoga teacher training courses asked me for advice on marketing, I shared it, and slowly but surely I was back on course. Except I wasn't.

Because (as you well know!) creating your own successful service business requires marketing.

It needs design, copy, content. Before this I had oodles of experience of getting in the minds of my target audience, planning campaigns, spending millions of euro on TV, Radio, Outdoor, Cinema and Digital!

I'd had a few side hustles in the 2000s but if you want to have your own online training business then you've got to be able to write sales pages, emails, marketing copy. Heck you've got to be able to get your point across clearly at networking events.

So ... I tried to go it alone. I read the books, I leaned into my existing marketing experience and I did ok.

I signed a number of high ticket coaching clients (thanks Sarah, Geraldine, Tash and Matt) I ran a group program, I sold some online courses. But it wasn't that big success that I wanted to replace the revenue of my consultancy business.

Until I joined the Copy Confidence Society.

With both the guidance of Marisa and her community I realised that I had a mucky message!

I knew what my clients loved about working with me, but I hadn't been able to translate that into words.

Marisa helped me to rewrite the registration page of one of my most subscribed to lead magnets (you might have it!) It's the LinkedIn to Leads Checklist.

She and the community also helped me to realise that I was right in offering training in LinkedIn and I should double down on it and make it my niche. Before that I was saying that I could "help my clients to generate quality leads through clearer messaging."

It wasn't landing.

Now I say "Here's the thing, when people search for you online one of the first things that comes up is your LinkedIn Profile, is yours up to scratch." Immediately my clients can picture whether they need my help or not. It's made me so much more referable and from that point onwards in 2022 my business has taken off.

Why am I telling you all of this?

Because I know some of you need help with your messaging. And much as I love writing, I'm not a copy mentor, but Marisa is.

She is about to host a free copy class called Leave ‘Em Wanting More: the 3-part framework to whip up irresistible copy with creativity & chutzpah.

The class will give you a taste of the program and even if you decide NOT to join CCS, the class alone is totally worth your time to attend, especially because it’s really live with Marisa there to answer your questions.?

She runs the class 3 different times (it’s like Broadway!) so pick the date/time that works for you and be there!

You can sign up for the class here.

I trust Marisa and am so grateful for her support inside of my business. If it's time for you to sort out your messaging then I think you’ll love being part of the incredible community she’s created.?

Let me know if you have any questions.?
