How to Classify Your AI Tasks for Best Results at Work

This week's tip: A strategy for classifying your tasks for best results with AI in your work.

To effectively use AI at work, it's crucial to understand that not all tasks are equally suited.

Just as you would delegate tasks to a team member based on their strengths, you need to evaluate which tasks are best suited for AI.

This process can be simplified with a method called the "AI Task Hierarchy."

This hierarchy categorizes tasks into three distinct levels:

1. Tasks That Need to be Completed

At the bottom of the hierarchy are tasks that simply need to be done correctly.

These tasks are straightforward and can be objectively judged as right or wrong.

Examples: basic research, and routine everyday tasks.

Easiest to delegate to AI because they require minimal creativity and decision-making.

2. Tasks That Need to be Good Enough

The middle tier consists of tasks that need to be done "good enough."

These tasks don't require perfection, they just need to meet a certain quality standard.

Most day-to-day work falls into this category: such as writing emails, preparing meeting notes, and developing project plans.

AI can handle these tasks efficiently, freeing up your time for more complex work.

3. Tasks That Need to be Excellent

At the top of the hierarchy are tasks that require excellence.

These tasks demand creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Examples: creating marketing campaigns, brainstorming product ideas, and tackling complex issues.

AI can assist with these tasks, human input is crucial to for highest quality results.

Here’s how to get started:

Start by focusing on tasks in the bottom and middle tiers of the hierarchy first.

These tasks are easier to delegate to AI and can provide quick wins, allowing you to experience immediate benefits.

As you become comfortable with AI, explore incorporate it into higher-level tasks.
