How choosing the wrong designer can cost you A LOT more

How choosing a web designer for their lower rates can end up becoming more expensive: My client's story.

I have a long term client who regularly asks me to design her landing pages. She likes my designs so much that she wanted me to overhaul her website (I didn't design her website, but we use her website for her landing pages).

However, she wanted it done in November, and I couldn't take on her website as I was fully-booked during this period.

I suggested she take my design to a web developer and discuss what she liked about it.

I don't mind if the developer copy my design at all, as long as she ends up happy with her website's overhaul. In my head, surely, if she shows what she likes, the web developer can do it, right?

Turns out, it's not always like that.

Yesterday, I got a couple of voice messages from her asking me if I could take over the web design as, as she said, "You just get it." She doesn't care that my rates are more expensive or that she has to pay a lot more because she already paid a deposit to this web designer.

Of course, I didn't just say yes as I respect my fellow web designers. I gave her suggestions on how she can communicate better what she wants and her vision for her website. I even told her to show the most recent landing page I designed for her that she really loved.

If she's still unhappy after discussing with the developer again, then that's when I can step in.
