How to choose your finishes!

While choosing a paint color for your brand can be difficult, choosing the finish of your paint should be easy! There are many reasons why companies select certain finishes for their brands. These finishes range from flat, matte finishes, to eggshell, to glossy. Finishes can be mixed and used together to best suit your need whether it be corporate / franchising specifications or personal preference. When selecting a finish for your brand here are some things to consider.

Flat, Matte Finishes

Matte finishes are great for absorbing light and are very affordable! These flat finishes are also great for concealing imperfections. On the other hand, matte finishes are difficult to clean and scrubbing can cause damage to the painted surface. We would recommend matte finishes for offices, conference rooms, ceilings and all low-traffic areas.

Eggshell Finishes

Similar to matte, eggshell finishes are relatively low on sheen. These finishes are slightly more durable and scuff resistant. We would recommend using an eggshell finish in offices and meeting rooms.

Satin Finishes

Next up, satin finishes! Satin is a popular finish due to the slight shine and durability of it. These paints are easily cleaned and maintained. We would recommend satin finishes for almost anywhere in a new build facility as they have minimal reflection but are not too entirely glossy.

Semi-gloss Finishes

These finishes are highly durable and easy to clean. Unfortunately, semi-gloss finishes can show surface flaws more than the above finishes. Due to the nature of semi-gloss finishes, it needs to be painted strictly on smooth surfaces. We recommend adding a semi-gloss finish in high traffic areas such as restrooms, classrooms and hallways.

Gloss Finishes

Gloss finishes are often saved for trim & doors. These finishes reflect the most light and can be a bit pricey. Like semi-gloss, gloss will show every imperfection on the surface it is painted on. Gloss is recommended for trim, doors, baseboards, and decorative molding in commercial buildings.
